Strike! Dice Game Review
We recently took a chance on a game called Strike! Beyond Yatzee, we don’t play many dice games. This one was pleasantly surprising. It’s so simple anyone can pick it up after the first player plays.
Strike! is mainly about matching. You roll one dice at a time in an attempt to match the dice in play. There’s a bit more to it but that’s the gist of the game.
Why Strike Dice Game?
Anyone who likes simple games to play with friends or family should give Strike a try. It’s mostly about players taking turns rolling dice. So if you like to chat during a game, Strike is a good option.
It doesn’t require much concentration compared to say a card game or board game. Much like Yatzee, each player takes a turn so there’s ample opportunity for conversation.
How We tested Strike.
We tested this game with 1, 2, 3, and 4 players. We tested both the racing and freestyle modes. All tracks, sleds, and rules were tested as well.
Comparable Games
Strike is mostly comparable to Yatzee, only much simpler. The goal is simple: don’t run out of dice. Yatzee and Strike both involve rolling dice. However, Yatzee involves score keeping whereas Strike involves acquiring dice.
Each roll of the dice in Strike has three outcomes. A match means the player keeps both dice. No match means the dice stays in the arena. Finally, a cross bones means the dice is removed from play. As the game progresses players run out of dice. The last player with dice wins.
A game of Strike is much faster than a game of Yatzee. There isn’t any scorekeeping or categories in Strike, either the roll matches or it doesn’t.
Pros and Cons
The best part about Strike is it’s simple and easy to play. Players can talk freely since that doesn’t interfere with play.
Strike tends to reward cautious players who don’t take many chances. Of course, playing cautiously isn’t very exciting. Taking chances might be more fun but tends to lose in the long run.
It isn’t fast paced or the most exciting game I’ve ever played. It really depends on the people you play with, we had a great time!
It’s a minor complaint but the rules don’t specify what to do if any dice in the arena change. Sooner or later a rolled dice is going to crash into other dice in the arena and change the number showing. Players should decide ahead of time whether the new or old number showing count. We simply placed dice in play outside the arena to avoid this outcome.
Review Summary
Our Strike game review gives it 7 out of 10 stars. It’s not a bad game and we had fun playing it. Still, it isn’t for everyone. Some may find it boring since it’s just rolling dice.
If that sort of game appeals to you then you should give Strike a try!

I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space and Overcooked All You Can Eat.
