Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is a racing game great for families and friends. Race as Sonic, Tails and the usual cast along with Pac Man, Mine Craft, Mega Man and more cross over characters.

Sonic Frontiers is the first open world Sonic game and it’s a great one. Play as Sonic as he explores the Starfall Islands, rescues his friends and more.

Sonic Superstars is the closest to a modern Sonic the Hedgehog 1. It has Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Trip as playable characters as they race though side scroller levels and defeat bosses. They have all new levels and bosses but it feels like Sonic 1 style wise.

The goal is to grab a spoon on the table. The twist is nobody can grab a spoon until at least one player gets 4 of a kind. Also, there is always one less spoon than there are players. The game ends when two players compete for the last spoon.

You need a full deck of cards, preferably with both jokers. Jokers are wild cards, without them the game is possible but takes longer. The next item you need are spoons (pens, coins, or any similar trinket). You need one fewer spoon than there are players. In other words, you need 6 spoons if there are 7 players, 5 spoons if there are 6 players, etc.

Arrange the spoons in a circle toward the middle of the table. At least one spoon should be within reach of each player. Next deal out 4 cards to each player. The dealer keeps the rest of the cards near them.

Once the cards are dealt and the spoons laid out the game begins. The dealer draws one card from the deck and decides whether they want to keep it or not. Then they pass one card to the player on their left. The dealer continues drawing and passing one card at a time to their left. The next player picks up the card and discards one card to the player on their left. Nobody is allowed to have more than 5 cards in their hand at any time. Cards can pile up depending on how fast or slow players pass them.

Play continues around the table in this fashion until one player gets 4 of a kind. Once a player gets 4 of a kind they are allowed to pick up a spoon. Once one player picks up a spoon the other players are allowed to pick up the remaining spoons.

The player to the dealer’s right should avoid mixing their discard pile and the deck the dealer is drawing from. In theory someone should get 4 of a kind before the dealer runs out of cards.

Players are not required to lay down or announce their 4 of a kind until after all the spoons are picked up. They can continue to pick up and pass cards if they wish. Once all the spoons are picked up the round is over and the player without a spoon is eliminated.

After a player is eliminated, one spoon is removed. The remaining spoons are laid out on the table. Deal moves to the player on the left. The next dealer shuffle’s the cards and deals out 4 cards to each player.

Once the cards are dealt and everyone’s ready the dealer begins the round by drawing a card from the deck. Once the dealer starts drawing they don’t stop drawing and passing until all the spoons are picked up. Again, a spoon can’t be picked up until one player gets 4 of a kind (not 4 of the same suit). When all the spoons are picked up the round is over and another player is eliminated.

Each round eliminates one player and one spoon is removed. The final round involves two players and one spoon. The player who grabs the final spoon wins the game.

Keep an eye on the spoons. Players aren’t required to announce their 4 or a kind or stop passing cards once the get 4 of a kind. Some players are very sneaky about grabbing a spoon and letting the round go on.

The idea is to process cards as fast as you can but there isn’t a rule against going slowly. The game is definitely a lot more lively when everyone is passing cards as fast as they can.

There’s also no rule against a bluff or fake grab to distract players. A player is required to show their 4 of a kind at the end of the round so don’t go overboard.

Eliminated players can watch or help players pass cards if there’s a large gap between players.

Spoons can be absolute chaos at times but also terribly fun. The game is simple enough for anyone to learn. It’s definitely a winner and any party. If you enjoy games like Pit or Slap Jack then you should give Spoons a try!

I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space and Overcooked All You Can Eat.

The overcooked series is of our favorite games. We played the first one and then the second and since we loved them both so much we even got the collection all you can eat.

• Overcooked started the fun and mayhem.
• Overcooked 2 expanded it with more freedom, creativity, and online play.
• Overcooked: All You Can Eat wrapped it all up into the ultimate kitchen party.

The first Overcooked introduced players to the pure joy (and chaos) of cooperative cooking under pressure. You and your fellow chefs are thrown into small, obstacle-filled kitchens with tight time limits and ever-growing orders. The premise sounds simple—chop ingredients, cook them, serve dishes—but the design constantly throws curveballs: moving countertops, kitchens that split in half, and slippery floors that make coordination harder than it should be.
What makes Overcooked stand out is how it encourages teamwork through tension. Players have to talk, plan, and improvise on the fly, turning every level into a wild comedy of errors. It’s a perfect couch co-op game—simple to play, hard to master, and incredibly funny when everything goes wrong. Though it lacked online multiplayer and had a few rough edges, it laid the foundation for one of the best party series in modern gaming.

Overcooked 2 took the original’s formula and cranked up every aspect of it. The biggest and most welcome addition was online multiplayer, allowing friends to play together no matter where they were. The sequel also introduced throwing mechanics, letting players toss ingredients across the kitchen—perfect for frantic teamwork (or hilarious accidents).
Levels became even more imaginative, with dynamic stages that shift mid-round: floating hot air balloons that crash into sushi kitchens, magic portals, and conveyor belts that keep you moving whether you like it or not. The visuals were cleaner, the pacing faster, and the difficulty curve a little more forgiving for newcomers. Overcooked 2 struck a great balance between accessibility and challenge, making it one of the best local and online co-op experiences of its generation. If the first game was the recipe, this one perfected the cooking technique.

Overcooked: All You Can Eat is the ultimate edition—a fully remastered collection that bundles Overcooked 1 and 2, plus all DLC, into one seamless experience. Built for modern consoles, it offers upgraded visuals, smoother frame rates, cross-platform multiplayer, and accessibility improvements like assist modes and scalable text. It’s designed to be the definitive way to experience the entire Overcooked saga, especially for new players who missed the originals.
What makes this edition shine is how it unifies the games. The first Overcooked was rebuilt in the newer engine, meaning all levels from both games can be played online with modern conveniences. The Party Party Time game series is cute and a lot of fun to play. We’ve played 1, 2, 3 and the Summer party party time games and enjoyed them a lot.

Party Party Time 1

Released in 2023, Party Party Time is a lighthearted multiplayer party game designed to get groups laughing and competing across dozens of mini-games with ease. Up to six players can join on one console, making it ideal for casual gatherings, game nights, or families. The game features a Free Mode where you pick any mini-game to dive in, and a Party Mode where you string mini-games together in succession to earn points and declare a winner at the end. The mini-games themselves are simple and intuitive—things like shooting water guns, passing bombs, clearing blocks, or aiming cannons—so new players are never overwhelmed. The focus is purely on fun and spontaneity, and the low-barrier controls make it accessible even for non-gamers.

Party Party Time 2

The sequel, released in 2024, builds on the foundation of the first game by adding new modes, character customization, and online play in addition to local multiplayer. You still have the Free Mode and Party Mode, but now there’s also an online mode to play with distant friends, and many of the mini-games incorporate co-operative objectives (not just competitive ones). One highlighted feature is the ability to double points in the last game of a session—adding a bit of dramatic finish to an otherwise laid-back experience. Summer Party Time

Summer Party Time purportedly focuses on outdoor-themed mini-games, beach and poolside settings, and perhaps a more “holiday party” vibe. The idea is similar: a collection of accessible mini-games for multiple players, but with a focus on summer fun—think water balloon tosses, surfboard races, sandcastle builds, and friendly competitions under the sun. Smurfs Village Party

Smurfs Village Party is a cheerful party adventure, Papa Smurf is organizing a huge celebration in the Smurf Village and enlists everyone’s help. You can play in two major modes: Adventure Mode, where you explore 10 different environments (from the Enchanted Forest to Gargamel’s territory), meet over 100 familiar Smurfs and complete quests to ready the party, and Party Game Mode, where you jump into a collection of 50 mini-games across six categories (sport, quickness, luck, memory, battle, accuracy) with up to four local players. This game is all about fun, family-friendly multiplayer and exploring the Smurfs’ world with a big party feel.

What gives Sonic Rumble its identity is the blend of Sonic speed with large-scale multiplayer mayhem: stages are packed with boost pads, portals, traps, and vertical elements that encourage high-energy movement. Cosmetic customization and emotes let players personalize their characters, and rotating game modes keep the core loop fresh. The game leans heavily on social, match-based fun rather than a deep single-player campaign, so it’s best enjoyed with friends or quick online sessions where the goal is frantic, arcade-style competition.

Disney Tsum Tsum festival

Disney Tsum Tsum Festival brings together Disney and Pixar characters in the cute “Tsum Tsum” style and wraps them up in a party puzzle format. Up to four players can race through minigames in both solo and cooperative settings, using the Switch’s versatility to enjoy playful competition or relaxed puzzle sessions. The characters are all rendered as stackable plush-style tsum tsums, and the minigames vary from puzzle challenges to fast-paced multiplayer fun, making it ideal for casual play with friends or family.

Shawn the Sheep

Based on the beloved stop-motion animated series, Shaun The Sheep Home Farmageddon Party Edition puts you in the woolly hooves of Shaun (and friends) as you help rescue the flock and navigate quirky environments like junk piles, circus tents and more. While its core is a single-player adventure with problem-solving and exploration, it also includes mini-games and puzzle elements that reflect the show’s mischievous and playful tone. The controls use the DS’s touchscreen (in its original release) to solve tasks, unlock areas and guide the sheep back to safety.

Carnival Games

Carnival Games recreates the feel of a lively fairground, packed with a variety of mini-games and attractions that mimic ring tosses, cake stacking, horse racing and more. It’s built for local multiplayer fun, letting players hop from one carnival game to the next in a casual, accessible setting. The visuals are bright and the tone is festive — the idea is less about deep mechanics and more about having laughs and trying different quick-play challenges.

Muddle Dash is a lighthearted party racer built around chaotic short-course sprints, environmental hazards, and playful multiplayer interactions. Players take control of colorful characters (often with quirky movement quirks) and race through whimsical tracks filled with obstacles, jump pads, and stage-specific gimmicks. Races prioritize momentum and improvisation over strict technical skill, so unexpected events and recoveries are common — which makes the game both unpredictable and comical.

Switching genres entirely, Pokémon Unite takes the world of Pokémon into the realm of team-based strategy and fast-paced action. It’s a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) where players control individual Pokémon, each with their own movesets and evolution paths, and battle in 5v5 matches to score the most points. The focus isn’t on catching or collecting but on coordination, quick reflexes, and smart teamwork.

What makes Unite unique is how it blends competitive strategy with Pokémon charm — Pikachu can zap entire teams, Snorlax can block opponents with its belly, and Lucario can dash through defenses. The game is free-to-play with rotating Pokémon selections and cosmetic unlocks, making it easy to jump into yet deep enough for competitive players. It’s Pokémon reimagined as an eSport, and surprisingly, it works.

Pokemon Sword/Shield

Pokémon Shield represents the first full mainline entry on the Switch and introduces players to the Galar region, inspired by the United Kingdom. It’s a mix of classic Pokémon adventure and modern updates like the Wild Area, an open zone filled with roaming Pokémon and dynamic weather. The introduction of Dynamaxing — temporary giant Pokémon forms used in battles — adds a flashy new layer to strategy.

Galar’s design balances cozy countryside charm with large stadium battles that feel like sporting events, and the gym leaders’ personalities help bring the world to life. While some fans found the story straightforward, the presentation and scope made Shield a key step forward in making Pokémon feel larger and livelier.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet

Pokémon Violet brings the franchise fully into an open-world format. Set in the Paldea region, inspired by Spain, the game allows players to explore freely, tackling objectives in any order. There are three main story paths — battling gyms, taking on massive Titan Pokémon, and challenging the rebellious Team Star — all intertwined in a surprisingly emotional narrative.

One of Violet’s most distinct features is its futuristic theme, contrasting with Scarlet’s past-focused aesthetic. Legendary Pokémon Miraidon doubles as your traversal partner, transforming into a motorbike-like creature for exploration. Though technical issues at launch drew criticism, the creativity, character design, and new Pokémon species made Violet an ambitious and memorable leap forward.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond (and the original, just Diamond) brings players to the Sinnoh region, a mountainous land known for its deep mythology about the Pokémon world’s creation. The original DS version introduced online trading and battling, along with polished visuals for its time. Sinnoh’s story centers around the legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia, weaving science, myth, and moral tension into the adventure.

The remake stays faithful to the classic design, offering nostalgia with a modern polish. While it doesn’t innovate as boldly as other recent titles, its strong structure, balanced gameplay, and memorable soundtrack remind players why Sinnoh remains a fan-favorite generation.

Detective Pikachu

Detective Pikachu is a story-driven adventure game that follows Tim Goodman, a teenager searching for his missing father, and a unique talking Pikachu who claims to have worked with Tim’s dad as a detective. Together, they investigate strange events happening throughout Ryme City, interviewing Pokémon and humans alike, collecting clues, and solving a series of connected mysteries. The game focuses on narrative and character interactions rather than traditional Pokémon battles—each Pokémon’s personality and abilities play a role in uncovering the truth. With its light humor, cinematic style, and buddy-cop feel, it blends mystery-solving with Pokémon charm while gradually revealing a bigger conspiracy involving Tim’s father.

Detective Pikachu Returns continues the story of Tim and his gruff, coffee-loving Pikachu as they pick up new cases in Ryme City and get closer to understanding what happened to Tim’s missing dad. The sequel expands the world with new districts, more Pokémon to question, and additional partners Pikachu can team up with to use special abilities during investigations. While the gameplay remains focused on clue-gathering, puzzle-solving, and dialog, this entry leans even more into cinematic storytelling, offering larger set pieces and deeper emotional moments. The game aims to resolve lingering mysteries from the first title, delivering a more polished but familiar detective adventure filled with humor, Pokémon personality, and heart.

Together, these games show just how flexible and imaginative the Pokémon franchise has become. In Hello Kitty Kruisers With Sanrio Friends you join Hello Kitty and her Sanrio friends in a cheerful kart-racing adventure across land, sea, and air. Players choose from a roster of characters, unlock new outfits and vehicles, and race solo or with up to three friends in an accessible, family-friendly format.

Snow Moto Racing Freedom is a snow-mobile centered racing game where you zoom across icy terrain, perform jumps and drifts, and experience snow-based physics. The emphasis is on the feel of racing sleds through winter landscapes rather than chaotic power-ups.

Team Sonic Racing features Sonic characters racing in cars with a twist—it’s all about teamwork. You race as part of a team, share boosts and items, and work together to win. It blends classic kart mechanics with cooperative play and character-based power moves.

Based on the Cars 3 film, this game lets players race as Lightning McQueen, Cruz Ramirez, Jackson Storm and others on tracks inspired by the movie locations. Modes include standard racing, battle races with weapons, stunt/trick challenges and a “Hall of Fame” progression. There are over 20 characters and many tracks to unlock.

Smurfs Kart is a family-friendly kart racer featuring characters from the Smurfs franchise. Players select from the Smurfs cast, each with unique special items, and race on themed tracks. The game emphasizes accessible multiplayer fun, simple controls, and a cheerful atmosphere tailored for younger players or casual gaming sessions.

Blaze and the Monster Machines: Axle City Racers: Based on the kids’ show, this racing game is designed especially for younger players. You control monster trucks driven by Blaze and his friends, with simplified controls, optional assists (like auto-drive), and a focus on fun tracks rather than high-level competition.

Rev Up! RC Grand Prix is a racing title centered around remote-control vehicles—bugs, rally cars, trucks and more—with multiple races, vehicle classes, and on-road/off-road courses. Build and customize your RC cars and challenge friends in multiplayer fun.

A portable entry in the Mario Kart series for the Nintendo 3DS. Mario Kart 7 introduces new mechanics like hang-gliding, underwater driving, and full kart customization (body, tires, glider). Players compete across new and retro tracks in cups and battle modes, and can race locally and online.

Gameplay: Traditional kart racing with drifting, boosting, and item use.

Roster: Wide mix of Sonic and non-Sonic Sega characters.

Sonic & All-stars racing transformed

This sequel took the concept and transformed it—literally. The main feature is vehicle transformation, where cars morph into boats or planes mid-race, creating a dynamic and challenging experience.

Gameplay: Cars, boats, and planes all control differently; tracks shift between these forms during races.

Roster: Even bigger than before, including deep Sega cuts (e.g., Vyse, NiGHTS) and special guests like Wreck-It Ralph.

Tracks: Evolving courses that change between laps (e.g., flooding, collapsing, opening aerial routes).

Signature Feature: Transforming vehicles and highly dynamic track design.

Style: Deeper mechanics, more skill-based than the first game.

Best for players who want variety and skill-based racing with a strong Sega celebration vibe.

Team Sonic Racing

This game shifted gears (pun intended) to focus exclusively on Sonic characters and introduced team-based racing mechanics. Sega dropped the wider Sega roster to tell a Sonic-focused story and experiment with cooperative gameplay.

Gameplay: 12 racers split into 4 teams of 3. You win by working together—sharing boosts, passing items, and pulling off coordinated Team Ultimate moves.

Roster: 15 Sonic characters divided into Speed, Technique, and Power classes.

Tracks: All Sonic-themed, inspired by various zones.

Signature Feature: Team mechanics (slipstream trails, item sharing, coordinated boosts).

Style: Emphasizes teamwork over individual glory.

Best for Sonic fans who want to race strategically with friends or AI teammates.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is like a upgraded version of Team Sonic Racing that makes it even better. It takes place in different virtual racing worlds created by Dodon Pa, and it borrows many mechanics from Team Sonic Racing.

Gameplay: Focuses on being more like Mario Kart, high-speed racing in a different environments.

Roster: Sonic and friends and more in a cross-over racing world.

Tracks: courses from all different series from Sonic to Pac-Man filled with warp rings and glowing energy trails.

Signature Feature: Crossing between “worlds” mid race and then back again.

Style: A stylized concept blending racing and adventure.

Best for fans of Team Sonic Racing that felt it needed a little more or those curious about a Pac-Man with Sonic or Minecraft with Sonic.

Summary

Overall, If you want classic Sega nostalgia with simple, fun kart racing go for Sonic & SEGA All-stars racing. If you want the deepest and most dynamic racing experience Transformed is widely considered one of the best. If you prefer Sonic-only content with a unique team-focused twist Team Sonic Racing is the pick. And if you like Team and Transformed combined with crossing to different tracks mid race concepts, CrossWorlds gives a peek at a whole new racing idea and personally my favorite.

Hearts was such a popular card game it was standard with the Windows OS. Windows 7 was the last operating system to include Hearts. Hearts isn’t as well known since Windows switched to an online version. Which is too bad since Hearts is such a fun game to play. I never liked the online version since the first person to get the queen usually dropped out and by the end of the game you wound up playing computers anyway.

Whether you play computers or in person, Hearts is definitely a classic game everyone should try out.

The goal of Hearts is to avoid taking points. Each Heart is worth 1 point and the queen of spades is worth 13 points. The game ends when the first player reaches 100 points.

Ideally, Hearts is played with 4 players, however, by modifying the deck you can play with 3 to 5 players.

Start with an ordinary deck of 52 cards, no jokers. For four players no modification is necessary. If you have three players take out the two of clubs. If you have five players take out the two of clubs and the two of diamonds.

Choose a player to deal. There are several ways to choose, such as everyone drawing a card and the high card wins, youngest player, oldest player, player with the most recent birthday, etc. Shuffle the deck and deal out all the cards. The person to the dealers left starts the play.

They can lead with any Club, Spade, or Diamond in their hand. Hearts can’t be lead until Hearts are broken (explained later). Players have to follow the suit lead and the high card wins the trick.

The player that wins the trick now has the lead. The game continues as such until everyone is out of cards. Every player must follow the suit lead unless they don’t have any cards of that suit. Then they can throw whatever card in their hand they want.

The first time a player is able to throw a Heart into a trick, Hearts are broken. The player with the high card of the suit lead wins that trick and the points from that trick. The queen of spades qualifies as a Heart. Once Hearts are broken, Hearts can be lead.

Again, the high card from the suit lead always wins the trick. There is no trump. If the four of diamonds is lead and no other diamonds are played, then the four of diamonds wins the trick.

After all the cards are played it’s time to count the points. Each heart counts as one point and the queen of spades counts as 13 points. The game ends when a player earns 100 or more points. The winner is the player with the least amount of points.

Another rule of Hearts is passing cards after they’re dealt but before the round begins. Each player takes three cards they don’t want and passes them to another player. The first pass is left, the second pass is right, the third pass is across, and there is no pass for the fourth deal.

So after the first deal, all players pass three cards to the left. The second deal players pass three cards to the right. The third deal players pass three cards to the player across from them. The fourth deal players hold their cards and don’t pass any. This passing (or no passing) continues until the game ends.

Another rule of Hearts is shooting the moon. This is when a player takes all 13 hearts and the queen of spades. That player doesn’t get any points, instead all the other players get 26 points.

This isn’t easy. All a player has to do is take one heart to spoil another player’s run at the moon. Usually, it requires a lot of high cards or a very large portion of a single suit to shoot the moon.

Hearts is an easy game for all ages. It only requires a standard deck of cards. If you’re looking for a fun game then look no further than Hearts!

Unlike Mario Kart’s free-for-all chaos, CrossWorlds racing is about synergy and coordinated moves. While in the normal Grand Prix mode it works more similar to Mario Kart.

Setting and Tracks

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe thrives on variety. You race through Mushroom Kingdom staples, real-world inspired courses, and wild fantasy settings. Each track is polished, with anti-gravity sections and shortcuts that make every lap feel exciting.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds takes place in a virtual racing environment created by Dodon Pa. It has glowing, digital landscapes full of sharp turns, energy boosts, and warp paths. The race course have way more detail than Mario Kart’s whimsical worlds, emphasizing speed and detail over goofy obstacles.

Characters and Stats

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe offers a massive roster of Mario and Nintendo characters, each with their own stats. Everyone races individually, and items are the great equalizer.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has customizable vehicles, and each character has a stat type that they’re focused on. The types are: Speed (like Sonic, Shadow or Blaze), Acceleration (Tails), Power (Knuckles), Handling (Amy or Cream) and Boost (Jet, Wave or Storm).

Items and Power-Ups

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is famous for its wacky arsenal: blue shells, Bullet Bills, banana peels, and more. Items can completely change the race order, adding a layer of unpredictability.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds‘s items are a lot like Mario Kart’s. Instead of green shells there’s green fists, instead of blue shells there’s king boom boo etc. However there is some new items in the mix like Void sucks in rings and the monster truck makes your character grow mega sized although there is the mega mushroom in Mario Kart Tour it’s not in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Overall Vibes

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a party game at heart. It’s accessible, chaotic, and endlessly replayable with friends or online.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds leans toward competitive team play in a sleek, digital world. It’s more about coordination and speed than item-driven chaos.

Summary

While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains the gold standard for kart racers, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds offers a fresh take by emphasizing teamwork and futuristic environments. If you love lighthearted, item-filled fun, Mario Kart is the clear pick. But if you prefer speed, strategy, and team synergy, the CrossWorlds concept scratches a different itch entirely.
