Why Trouble Board Game?

But despite its simplicity, there’s more to Trouble than meets the eye—especially when you consider how it balances luck, tension, and quick gameplay.

Movement is determined entirely by the roll of a die, which is sealed inside the plastic Pop-O-Matic bubble. It creates moments of tension and excitement, especially near the end when players are close to winning. But it can also lead to frustration, particularly for younger players who may not enjoy losing progress.

The Pop-O-Matic bubble deserves special mention. It’s not just a gimmick—it genuinely enhances the experience. The satisfying “pop” of pressing the bubble is oddly fun and helps keep all the pieces contained, reducing the chances of losing the die. It also speeds up gameplay, since there’s no need to chase a rolling die across the table.

In terms of replay value, Trouble holds up fairly well for casual play. Games are usually short, often lasting around 15–30 minutes, which makes it easy to play multiple rounds in one sitting. However, because the gameplay doesn’t evolve or change much, it can feel repetitive over time, especially for older players or those who prefer more strategic games.

Visually, the game is bright and colorful, which appeals to kids. The board is clear and easy to read, and the pieces are sturdy enough to handle regular use. It’s a well-designed product in terms of durability and usability.

Frantic Antics is one of the better games ported from a TV show. You can play as Tom the cat, Jerry the mouse, or both for some two player side scrolling action. In my experience, it’s actually better as a two player game. Playing solo is on par with the Shinobi games for Genesis, it takes a lot of practice. When you have two players, the game is much better.

The game is based on Tom and Jerry: The Movie from 1992. Tom and Jerry have to help the Robyn defeat her aunt Figg, the final boss and reunite her with her father. The levels are based on places from the movie. It starts in a nice enough neighborhood dodging dogs, pits, and other obstacles. Other levels include a condemned house, an alley, the sewers, a library, the dog pound, the carnival, and finally a cabin.

Each level relies on very well timed jumps and dodges. Sometimes a frisbee, football, or other weapon is available. However, these attacks are limited to 3 shots. The only other way to take out enemies is to roll into them. Mostly, it’s better to just avoid anything thrown at you.

This game heavily relies on being able to jump properly. Meaning getting a running start and jumping as close to the edge as possible. I’ll admit there are places in the library, the carnival, and the cabin where it’s brutal if you miss certain jumps. These jumps are the most challenging part of the game. The end boss is easy compared to some of those jumps.

My favorite parts are the two player mode. Being able to play side by side is a rarity for many Genesis games. Frantic Antics gets this part right. The two player mode lets players look out for each other and spread the damage out so both can live longer.

Tom can jump higher and is a bit of a tank character while Jerry can jump farther, slides more, but has a very small hit box. These small differences have advantages in two player mode but seem to make it harder in single player mode.

The critical jumps in most levels from the library on. Really there are only about 3 or 4 hard jumps total. You’ll know them when you get to them. Missing them eats up crucial time or sends you plummeting back a long way.

Other than those extremely difficult jumps, the game is a lot of fun. The timer can be a bit of a bummer from time to time. But we learned to keep running as much as possible to beat the clock.

Overall, Tom and Jerry Frantic Antics is a lot of fun, and very rewarding to see that final screen shot. It takes a lot of practice to get there but it’s worth it.

If you like two player games, Tom and Jerry Frantic Antics is worth a try. The strengths and weaknesses of each player is really important to finishing each level. Staying in sync and on screen gets to be second nature after a while. It makes for a fun gaming experience.

Why Super Mario Sunshine?

Super Mario Sunshine is a colorful 3D platform adventure originally released for the Nintendo GameCube. It serves as the follow-up to Super Mario 64 and continues Mario’s exploration of large, open environments. However, instead of exploring many completely different worlds, this game takes place mostly on a tropical island. With its sunny atmosphere, creative mechanics, and memorable locations, Super Mario Sunshine offers a unique twist on the Mario formula.

The story begins when Mario, Princess Peach, and Toadsworth travel to Isle Delfino for a vacation. Instead of relaxing on the beach, Mario quickly finds himself in trouble when a mysterious figure that looks like him begins vandalizing the island with strange paint-like graffiti. The island’s authorities mistakenly blame Mario for the mess and order him to clean up the pollution. To prove his innocence and restore the island, Mario must collect Shine Sprites while uncovering the truth behind the mysterious impostor. Personally, I think the story is kinda similar to Sonic Adventure 2’s storyline.

One of the most distinctive features of Super Mario Sunshine is Mario’s water-powered backpack called F.L.U.D.D. (Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device). This tool allows Mario to spray water to clean up the island’s pollution, defeat enemies, and solve puzzles. The device also provides several movement abilities, such as hovering through the air, blasting forward at high speed, and spraying water while running.

These abilities give the gameplay a different feel compared to other Mario games. Instead of relying only on jumps and platforming, players must learn to use F.L.U.D.D. creatively. For example, hovering can help Mario cross large gaps, while spraying water can reveal hidden objects or defeat certain enemies.

The game’s setting, Isle Delfino, acts as a large hub world with several different areas connected to it. Each area represents a different part of the island, such as beaches, harbors, amusement parks, and mountain villages. Although all areas share the same tropical theme, they each have unique layouts, challenges, and secrets to discover.

Players collect Shine Sprites, which serve a similar role to Power Stars in Super Mario 64. These are earned by completing missions, solving puzzles, defeating bosses, or discovering hidden areas. Many missions involve cleaning pollution or chasing the mysterious figure responsible for the graffiti.

In these sections, Mario temporarily loses access to the water device and must rely entirely on traditional platforming skills. However, the game does have some drawbacks.

One of the most common criticisms involves the camera system. While the game allows players to adjust the camera, it can sometimes position itself awkwardly during tricky platforming sections. This can make certain jumps more difficult than intended.

The mission structure can also feel somewhat repetitive. Players often return to the same areas multiple times to complete different Shine Sprite missions. Although the objectives change, the locations remain the same.

Another issue is that some missions can be unexpectedly difficult. Certain challenges require precise movement or quick reactions, which may frustrate players who expect a more relaxed experience.

Additionally, the tropical theme, while charming, means the game has less environmental variety compared to other Mario titles that feature completely different worlds.

Despite these issues, the game remains a memorable adventure.

Why Sonic Adventure?

Released originally for the Sega Dreamcast, the game introduced new mechanics, multiple playable characters, and a more cinematic storytelling approach.

The story begins when a mysterious water-like creature named Chaos is released by the villainous Dr. Eggman. Eggman plans to use Chaos and the power of the Chaos Emeralds to take over the world. Sonic and his friends must stop him before Chaos becomes too powerful.

Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut is an expanded version of the original Sonic Adventure, bringing one of Sonic the Hedgehog’s first 3D adventures to a wider audience. Originally released on the Sega Dreamcast, this updated version adds new features, improved visuals (for its time), and extra content.

One of the most notable features of the game is its multiple playable characters, each offering a different gameplay experience. Players can take control of Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Big the Cat, and E-102 Gamma.
