Tips for Unlocking

There are Alt Colors, Costumes and Dough Avatars for the World map to unlock. You start out with three alt colors (including default), one costume (default) and one dough Avatar. Each characters has alt colors and costumes to start with.

To get Alt Colors you need to get stars on Normal levels, meaning not Stormy or Shroom.

To get Stormy Costumes you need to get stars on Stormy levels.

To get Shroom Costumes and the Batlava Dough Avatars you need to get stars on Shroom levels.

To get the Lil’Buns, DoughDough and Doughrilla Dough Avatars you need to get stars on Tropic Toaster world levels.

To get the Fluff Fox, Armadough and Bunboa Dough Avatars you need to get stars on Serradurra world levels.

Alt Colors

Each character has eight colors (including default). To unlock them you need to get starts in Normal levels. Here are images showing each character’s colors:

Costumes

To get different costumes besides the default you need to get stars on Normal, Stormy and Shroom levels. Here are all of the Costumes in the images below:

Rosemary’s Normal, Special, Stormy and Shroom Costumes.

Gameplay

At first, we struggled to figure out what we needed to do. Then we learned it’s best to merge doughs until they’re Max which is 30. When there at their max they’re worth 820 points. Once we learned how to play, we started getting silver regularly and now gold.

You can Punch, Throw and Dash. If you mash the throw button it’s good for merging quickly. Punch to knock out enemies and dash to go faster or to get over gaps.

We like to do the Co-op mode better than the P-VS-P mode. In the Co-op mode you all have to work together giving each person a job to do while in the VS mode you have to work against each other and sometime try to even hinder each other.

Characters

Each of the Characters have different streaths and weaknesses, here is al list of each below:

• Ginger is a weak fighter but has a powerful pony-tail whip to make up for it She is also good at merging. Ginger’s super can double dough’s points.
• Parsley is good at dashing but a light fighter. His super can send out cats that can get rid of enemies.
• Rosemary is slow but can bake fast. Her super can knock doughs into the oven to score points.
• Sage can save Moldy doughs by punching them but she’s slower to throw. Her super bakes doughs and enemies around her for points.
• Salt has a dizzying punch but isn’t good at dashing. His super can grab doughs that are far away and bring them closer.
• Thyme is verry good at fighting but. His super can bake doughs for points without having to put them in the oven.

Overall, I think that Sage is the best character just because her super is so good. But just by character overall and not super, Thyme might be the best.

Doughs

Each of the dough creatures have different abilities to help and hinder you. Here is a list of them all below:

• Lil’Buns when in a big stack they will eat the little ones.
• DoughDough tend to get scared and run away. Usually right off a cliff or into the lightning, which is super annoying.
• Doughrilla when in a big stack and an enemy is near them will attack them. When small they will dance which is cute.
• Fluff Fox are verry cheeky! they run away from you. If you sneak up behind them, you can still grab them.
• Armadough will try to roll into you so watch out! But you can also use them to break open boulders.
• Bunboa will try to hide in the sand then pop back out away from you. You have to be quick to catch them.
• Batlava will suck the flavors right out of the other doughs, yuck!

The Doughrilla and Lil’Buns are the most useful, but the foxes are the cutest.

World 1 – Tropic Toaster

This world is a grassy, beach and rune like area. The dough creatures you’ll use are Lil’Buns, DoughDough, Doughrilla and Batlava. The flavors are Watermelon, Pineapple and Coconut.

World 2 – Serradurra

This world is a desert area with different things like quicksand to get in your way. The dough creatures you’ll use are Fluff Fox, Armadough, Bunboa and Batlava. The flavors are Honey, Cinnamon and Pomegranate.

Tips

Keep in mind that each dough animal has different personalities too. The Lil’Buns when big will eat the little ones. The birds tend to run away from you and off a cliff or into the lightning which can be quite annoying. The monkeys when big will attack the enemies for you.

The foxes will be cheeky and run away from you but if you sneak up behind them you can still grab them. The armadillos will try to roll into you so watch out! The snakes will hide in the sand and pop back out. The bats will suck the flavors out of the other doughs.

Make sure to use each super, Sage’s super is really good to rank up some points. 600 is the max points she can get. A max dough is worth 820 in the oven, if you time it just right and use Ginger’s super then Thyme’s super you can get a lot of points too.

Tricks

If you stand right in front of a spawning dough spot and mash the throw button, you can merge doughs much easier. This trick can also work when you want to get rid of the enemies faster but mash the attack button instead.

Each character has a different skill and weakness, It’s good to work with your characters abilities and players’ to find the best strategy. Just be like Foxy Gamer and play as the weakest fighter who somehow is the best fighter, lol.

Why Bake ‘n Switch?

Bake ‘n Switch is a fun, visually appealing game best enjoyed in short bursts with friends. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel for party games, it’s worth trying for fans of cooperative cooking chaos and lighthearted fun.

In Bake ‘n Switch, players must team up to grab dough creatures, merge them into larger forms, and bake them in an oven before time runs out. The process is made harder by obstacles like rivers, quicksand, and enemies trying to contaminate the dough. This mix of strategy and speed makes the gameplay both engaging and chaotic.

Bake ‘n Switch has some similarities to Overcooked, Shakes on a Plane and Lumberhill. In all those you work together to make orders to serve, whether it’s food or lumber it still has similarities to how it works.

How We Test Games

For testing games we use a Nintendo Switch firmware version 2H. Hardware includes Joy-con and Pro controller on a large screen TV. Tests are done with up to 5 players. We take turns playing and evaluating games.

Whenever possible we play multiple players. We also use a Nintendo 2DS, DS XL, and for PC games we use a Ryzen 7 1700x CPU, AMD RX580, running on Win 10. This game is up to 4-players on one Nintendo Switch.

Pros

The Gameplay is engaging, players merge dough creatures and bake them while fending off enemies and environmental hazards, which adds variety and challenge.

The game features adorable dough characters and a charming, light-hearted aesthetic that appeals to casual gamers, and the foxes are just adorable!

The “Bun Solo” mode offers a cleaner, less chaotic gameplay experience compared to co-op, making it a good option for solo players.

Each playable character has unique abilities, such as anchoring or flaming, that add a strategic layer to the game.

Local Co-Op and PVP, perfect for couch gaming sessions with friends, supporting up to 4 players locally.

Cons

With only two main themes (tropical and desert) across 100 levels, the game can feel repetitive over time.

The Lack of Online Matchmaking might be a problem for some people, Online multiplayer requires friends who already own the game; no random matchmaking limits accessibility.

When you need to have two different kinds of orders it can be almost imposable to tell which dough creature is which, making wrong orders.

The Environmental obstacles and character movement can sometimes feel clunky or overly challenging.

Summary

Overall, Bake ‘n Switch is a charming game that blends fast-paced action with strategic elements. While it doesn’t reach the same heights as Overcooked, it’s worth playing for its cute visuals and unique gameplay mechanics. It shines most in local co-op but falls short in Versus content.
