Co-Op Games Gift Guide

Gaming Chickadee — Wed, 26 Nov 2025 03:24:06 +0000

We love working together in video games rather than against so I’ve made this gift guide of co-op games. I hope you like these games as much as we do!

Overcooked games

The overcooked series is of our favorite games. We played the first one and then the second and since we loved them both so much we even got the collection all you can eat.

Overcooked started the fun and mayhem.
Overcooked 2 expanded it with more freedom, creativity, and online play.
Overcooked: All You Can Eat wrapped it all up into the ultimate kitchen party.

The first Overcooked introduced players to the pure joy (and chaos) of cooperative cooking under pressure. You and your fellow chefs are thrown into small, obstacle-filled kitchens with tight time limits and ever-growing orders. The premise sounds simple—chop ingredients, cook them, serve dishes—but the design constantly throws curveballs: moving countertops, kitchens that split in half, and slippery floors that make coordination harder than it should be.
What makes Overcooked stand out is how it encourages teamwork through tension. Players have to talk, plan, and improvise on the fly, turning every level into a wild comedy of errors. It’s a perfect couch co-op game—simple to play, hard to master, and incredibly funny when everything goes wrong. Though it lacked online multiplayer and had a few rough edges, it laid the foundation for one of the best party series in modern gaming.

Overcooked 2 took the original’s formula and cranked up every aspect of it. The biggest and most welcome addition was online multiplayer, allowing friends to play together no matter where they were. The sequel also introduced throwing mechanics, letting players toss ingredients across the kitchen—perfect for frantic teamwork (or hilarious accidents).
Levels became even more imaginative, with dynamic stages that shift mid-round: floating hot air balloons that crash into sushi kitchens, magic portals, and conveyor belts that keep you moving whether you like it or not. The visuals were cleaner, the pacing faster, and the difficulty curve a little more forgiving for newcomers. Overcooked 2 struck a great balance between accessibility and challenge, making it one of the best local and online co-op experiences of its generation. If the first game was the recipe, this one perfected the cooking technique.

Overcooked: All You Can Eat is the ultimate edition—a fully remastered collection that bundles Overcooked 1 and 2, plus all DLC, into one seamless experience. Built for modern consoles, it offers upgraded visuals, smoother frame rates, cross-platform multiplayer, and accessibility improvements like assist modes and scalable text. It’s designed to be the definitive way to experience the entire Overcooked saga, especially for new players who missed the originals.
What makes this edition shine is how it unifies the games. The first Overcooked was rebuilt in the newer engine, meaning all levels from both games can be played online with modern conveniences. For longtime fans, it’s the most polished way to revisit the chaos; for newcomers, it’s the best jumping-in point. Whether you’re flipping burgers on a pirate ship or serving soup in space, All You Can Eat is the full feast—the complete, frantic, laugh-out-loud Overcooked experience in one place.

Moving Out games

Both games capture the same spirit of teamwork under pressure as Overcooked, but replace kitchens with couches and ovens with armchairs flying out of windows. Together, they make one of the funniest and most family-friendly co-op experiences available today.

Moving Out – Hilarious, slapstick co-op chaos that turns furniture moving into pure fun. Best for couch play and laughter with friends.
Moving Out 2 – Bigger, better, and finally online! Adds creative worlds, new mission types, and smoother, more flexible gameplay.

Moving Out is a wonderfully silly and physics-based co-op game where you and your friends play as movers working for the Smooth Moves company. The job sounds simple: pick up furniture and get it into the truck. The reality? Total chaos. Sofas get stuck in doorways, glass tables shatter, and everyone ends up yelling “PIVOT!” at least once. The game’s charm comes from how unpredictable it feels—each house has obstacles like conveyor belts, water hazards, or haunted furniture that keep players laughing even as they scramble to meet time limits.

The controls are intentionally wobbly, forcing you to cooperate (and sometimes collide) with your teammates to get the job done. What makes Moving Out stand out is its warm sense of humor and colorful, cartoon-like world. It’s accessible, family-friendly, and full of slapstick moments that feel like a playable comedy show. Though there’s no online multiplayer in the first game, the local co-op is top-notch, making it perfect for couch sessions with friends or family.

Moving Out 2 builds on everything that made the first game great while delivering exactly what fans wanted most—online multiplayer. Now you can join your fellow movers around the world and continue the hilarious mayhem together. The sequel takes things up a notch with multiple themed worlds, each with its own wacky logic: futuristic homes, fantasy castles, candy-colored dreamscapes, and even portals that bend the rules of physics.

The game’s physics remain intentionally unpredictable, but the levels are smarter and more varied this time. Some missions have unique goals beyond just moving furniture—like delivering bizarre objects or solving light environmental puzzles. It’s the same laugh-out-loud formula, but with smoother controls, better pacing, and more freedom to experiment.

Visually, Moving Out 2 is brighter and more polished, with snappier animations and expressive character designs. It also adds accessibility features such as adjustable difficulty, customizable controls, and modes that reduce time pressure for younger players or newcomers. It’s a great improvement that keeps the chaos fun rather than frustrating.

Out of Space

This cooperative strategy game puts players together in a cramped spaceship, where their job is less about space travel and more about keeping the place clean and functional amidst alien messes and chaos. You’ll mop up alien goo, recycle trash, maintain power, feed your crew, and expand your living space—all while surviving unexpected events. With both local and online multiplayer, it plays like a mix of chaotic teamwork and strategic planning. The kind of game where communication and coordination matter: if someone fails to plug in a battery or ignores trash piling up, the cabin might lose power and disaster unfolds. It’s charming, hectic, and great for friends who like to laugh through disasters together.

Bake n Switch

In this chaotic coop game, you and your friends take on the roles of apprentice bakers. Your mission: catch dough creatures, merge them into larger forms, decorate them, and bake them within a time limit—while dealing with environmental hazards, mould-infesting enemies, and other frenetic obstacles. It features dozens of levels, unique character abilities, local co-op, and a PvP mode. The visuals are cute and inviting, but the gameplay can get frustrating: controls can feel slippery, online play is limited, and repetition sets in if you play long. Best enjoyed in short bursts with friends around the couch where the chaos becomes fun rather than overwhelming.

Very Very Valet

In this playful couch-co-op game, you and up to three other players become “elite” valets tasked with parking, delivering, and handling an ever-escalating parking crisis. From garages and rooftops to chaotic city events, your job is to get cars in and out, navigate obstacles, and basically “just park it anywhere” in the face of absurd challenges. The focus is on fun, silliness, and improvisation rather than perfect precision. It’s ideal for groups who want something quick, fun, and cooperative with minimal setup—perfect for a friend group looking to play something easy to jump into and laugh about.

Sonic Superstars

Sonic Superstars takes on classic 2D Sonic platforming brings visually vibrant levels, both solo and cooperative play, and the chance to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles or Amy. The game introduces “Emerald powers,” new traversal moves like swimming up waterfalls or changing form, and stages that evoke older Sonic games while adding modern flourish. Whether you’re racing through lush jungles, icy peaks, or high-speed loops, the emphasis is on speed, exploration, and hidden secrets. With co-op available, it’s both nostalgic for longtime Sonic fans and accessible for newcomers who want to team up and blast through levels together.

Tools Up

In this chaotic renovation game, you and your teammates (up to four players) receive briefings to refurbish apartments or homes under a tight time limit. You’ll scrub walls, move furniture, paint rooms, fix wiring, and try to coordinate so you don’t trip over one another or mess up someone else’s prep. It’s part strategic planning, part frantic action, and fully designed for multiplayer fun. The shorter levels make it great for quick sessions with friends, and the challenge ramps up as tasks pile on. Ideal for those who like teamwork under pressure and a bit of controlled chaos.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

A fresh take on the iconic Mario series for Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Bros Wonder delivers inventive levels, new power-ups, and a playful reinvention of 2D Mario platforming. Players can choose Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and friends, each level introducing new mechanics—terrain changes, surprise buddies, and wild level designs that keep you guessing. With vibrant art, creative stage gimmicks, and both co-op and solo options, it succeeds at blending familiar Mario charm with new surprises. Whether you’re racing through the Mushroom Kingdom or exploring secret paths, it’s built to be approachable for younger players while still offering depth and variety.

Lumberhill

In this multiplayer party game, you play as lumberjacks who must chop wood, fulfill tasks, and survive an environment that’s actively working against you—wildfires, pirates, nature gone wild, and absurd scenarios. It supports local and online co-op or competitive modes, letting players join forces or face off while navigating levels that span time and world settings. The humor is broad and the gameplay is all about making tasks fun rather than realistic: toss logs, dodge chaos, and try to finish jobs before the environmental chaos overwhelms you. For groups who like lighthearted chaos and goofy tasks, it’s a solid pick.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Although you might think Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is all about VS there is some co-op modes too. This flagship fighting game for Nintendo Switch offers an enormous roster of characters, from Nintendo classics to surprise guests from other franchises. Battles can be simple free-for-alls or deeply competitive setups, with items, custom rules, and varied stages giving players flexibility. Whether you want casual fun with friends or serious tournament play, it delivers. The sheer amount of content—characters, modes, stages, and unlockables—makes it appealing for both beginners and veterans. It’s a celebration of gaming icons, big on spectacle and depth, with something for everyone whether you’re just button-mashing or mastering advanced techniques.

I hope my gift guide helps! if you can think of any fun, family friendly co-op games you’d like to share, feel free to comment below!

Mario Party games

We love the Mario Party game series and they have 3 of them for the switch.

Mario Party Superstars is a collection of past Mario parties games.
Super Mario Party has different modes like River Survival, Partner Party and other classic modes like just a plain mario party.
Super Mario Party Jamboree is the sequel to Super Mario Party so the gameplay has some similarities but adding new modes, boards and other twists to Super Mario Party.

Super Mario Party

Released for the Nintendo Switch in 2018, Super Mario Party marked a return to the series’ core board-game format while introducing new twists. Players pick favorite Mario characters, roll dice, move around themed boards, collect stars, and compete in mini-games after each round. The game features four main boards and around 80 mini-games, offering both local multiplayer fun and some solo modes. Unique features such as character-specific dice blocks added strategic variety: each character had a different set of dice icons, making player choice matter more than before. It also introduced new board-game modes like Partner Party, where teams of two play together, and River Survival, a cooperative mode where players work together down a flowing river of mini-games. The visual style is bright and cheerful, with a strong emphasis on family-friendly fun. While the luck factor remains high (as is tradition in Mario Party games), the experience is light, energetic and geared toward multiplayer gatherings.

Mario Party Superstars

Released in 2021 for the Switch, Mario Party Superstars takes a nostalgic turn by celebrating the history of the series. It collects five classic boards from the Nintendo 64 era and remasters them for modern play, along with 100 mini-games drawn from across many past Mario Party titles. The mechanics revisit the classic formula: roll a die, move across the board, collect coins and stars, play a mini-game, and repeat. Notably, unlike its predecessor Super Mario Party, Superstars supports both motion-based and button controls, making it more accessible to a variety of players. Online multiplayer is supported, which boosts its appeal for remote game nights. Essentially, the game is a buffet of Mario Party nostalgia, offering familiar boards with updated visuals and an extensive mini-game library. It’s less about reinventing the wheel and more about refining the classic party experience for modern hardware and players.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

Released in 2024 on the Switch, Super Mario Party Jamboree aims to be the largest entry in the series yet. It features seven game boards (five new boards plus two returning classics) and over 110 mini-games—giving players a vast amount of content. The game expands both its scale and modes: beyond standard board gameplay, it introduces new modes such as Koopathlon (an online mode supporting up to 20 players) and cooperative or competitive side-modes that vary the experience. The roster of playable characters is also larger than previous games, and boards include dynamic features and mechanics that change the way players move and compete. Its ambition is clear: gather a massive party of friends, explore a wide variety of boards and mini-games, and enjoy both local and online multiplayer at large scale. While still rooted in the familiar roll-and-play board game formula of Mario Party, Jamboree adds fresh modes, more character variety, and expanded online capabilities, making it a strong pick for fans who want both quantity and variety in their party game.

Fun Party Decorations

Here are some party decorations to add some extra fun to your party!

Party Party Time games

The Party Party Time game series is cute and a lot of fun to play. We’ve played 1, 2, 3 and the Summer party party time games and enjoyed them a lot.

Party Party Time 1

Released in 2023, Party Party Time is a lighthearted multiplayer party game designed to get groups laughing and competing across dozens of mini-games with ease. Up to six players can join on one console, making it ideal for casual gatherings, game nights, or families. The game features a Free Mode where you pick any mini-game to dive in, and a Party Mode where you string mini-games together in succession to earn points and declare a winner at the end. The mini-games themselves are simple and intuitive—things like shooting water guns, passing bombs, clearing blocks, or aiming cannons—so new players are never overwhelmed. The focus is purely on fun and spontaneity, and the low-barrier controls make it accessible even for non-gamers.

Party Party Time 2

The sequel, released in 2024, builds on the foundation of the first game by adding new modes, character customization, and online play in addition to local multiplayer. You still have the Free Mode and Party Mode, but now there’s also an online mode to play with distant friends, and many of the mini-games incorporate co-operative objectives (not just competitive ones). The trend here is toward more flexibility: you can design your own character avatar, tweak how you play (controllers, motion controls), and invite more players to join via online or local setups. The tone remains casual and party-focused, but there’s a slight push toward longer play sessions, connected play, and bigger parties.

Party Party Time 3

Released in late 2024, Party Party Time 3 further enhances the party game formula by bringing not only a greater number of mini-games (over 30 reported in the core package) but also more co-op-friendly mechanics, an enhanced character-editor, and the option for online matchmaking and leaderboards. The game again supports up to six players locally and improves user experience with better menus, smoother transitions, and more polished visuals. One highlighted feature is the ability to double points in the last game of a session—adding a bit of dramatic finish to an otherwise laid-back experience. It’s clear from the branding that the developers aim for a broader reach: families, friend groups, streaming parties, and casual players who want quick access to fun.

Summer Party Time

Summer Party Time purportedly focuses on outdoor-themed mini-games, beach and poolside settings, and perhaps a more “holiday party” vibe. The idea is similar: a collection of accessible mini-games for multiple players, but with a focus on summer fun—think water balloon tosses, surfboard races, sandcastle builds, and friendly competitions under the sun. Though less documented than the numbered entries, players who pick this up expect more relaxed pacing, bright summer visuals, and a fun backdrop perfect for casual play in warm seasons.

Chip Snacks

Here’s some of our favorite Chip snacks:

Smurfs Village Party

Smurfs Village Party is a cheerful party adventure, Papa Smurf is organizing a huge celebration in the Smurf Village and enlists everyone’s help. You can play in two major modes: Adventure Mode, where you explore 10 different environments (from the Enchanted Forest to Gargamel’s territory), meet over 100 familiar Smurfs and complete quests to ready the party, and Party Game Mode, where you jump into a collection of 50 mini-games across six categories (sport, quickness, luck, memory, battle, accuracy) with up to four local players. This game is all about fun, family-friendly multiplayer and exploring the Smurfs’ world with a big party feel.

Sonic Rumble

Sonic Rumble is a fast, arena-style multiplayer party game that drops classic Sonic characters into colorful, toy-like battle zones where dozens of players compete in short, chaotic rounds. Matches focus on objectives like collecting rings, surviving eliminations, or scoring the most points in objective-based modes. The controls are simple and accessibility-focused so new players can jump in quickly, while higher-level play rewards map awareness, dash timing, and smart use of stage hazards.

What gives Sonic Rumble its identity is the blend of Sonic speed with large-scale multiplayer mayhem: stages are packed with boost pads, portals, traps, and vertical elements that encourage high-energy movement. Cosmetic customization and emotes let players personalize their characters, and rotating game modes keep the core loop fresh. The game leans heavily on social, match-based fun rather than a deep single-player campaign, so it’s best enjoyed with friends or quick online sessions where the goal is frantic, arcade-style competition.

Disney Tsum Tsum festival

Disney Tsum Tsum Festival brings together Disney and Pixar characters in the cute “Tsum Tsum” style and wraps them up in a party puzzle format. Up to four players can race through minigames in both solo and cooperative settings, using the Switch’s versatility to enjoy playful competition or relaxed puzzle sessions. The characters are all rendered as stackable plush-style tsum tsums, and the minigames vary from puzzle challenges to fast-paced multiplayer fun, making it ideal for casual play with friends or family.

Shawn the Sheep

Based on the beloved stop-motion animated series, Shaun The Sheep Home Farmageddon Party Edition puts you in the woolly hooves of Shaun (and friends) as you help rescue the flock and navigate quirky environments like junk piles, circus tents and more. While its core is a single-player adventure with problem-solving and exploration, it also includes mini-games and puzzle elements that reflect the show’s mischievous and playful tone. The controls use the DS’s touchscreen (in its original release) to solve tasks, unlock areas and guide the sheep back to safety.

Carnival Games

Carnival Games recreates the feel of a lively fairground, packed with a variety of mini-games and attractions that mimic ring tosses, cake stacking, horse racing and more. It’s built for local multiplayer fun, letting players hop from one carnival game to the next in a casual, accessible setting. The visuals are bright and the tone is festive — the idea is less about deep mechanics and more about having laughs and trying different quick-play challenges.

Popcorn Snacks

Here are some Popcorn snacks I recommend:

Wise Butter Popcorn (Fox Gamer’s favorite!)
Blast O Butter Microwave Popcorn
Jiffy Butter Popcorn

Party Friends

Party Friends is a lightweight multiplayer game designed for laughs with friends. It features over 20 mini-games across themed environments like a sun-drenched beach, a cozy forest, a farm and a winter resort. It supports up to 4 local players (and Remote Play Together for PC) and emphasizes fun, easy-to-learn challenges that are perfect for casual gatherings. With vivid visuals and a focus on multiplayer silliness, it’s ideal for quick sessions and friendly competition.

Muddledash

Muddle Dash is a lighthearted party racer built around chaotic short-course sprints, environmental hazards, and playful multiplayer interactions. Players take control of colorful characters (often with quirky movement quirks) and race through whimsical tracks filled with obstacles, jump pads, and stage-specific gimmicks. Races prioritize momentum and improvisation over strict technical skill, so unexpected events and recoveries are common — which makes the game both unpredictable and comical.

The strength of Muddle Dash is its accessibility: rounds are brief, controls are forgiving, and physics-based collisions create hilarious moments where leads evaporate in seconds. Many matches include power-ups or stage items that amplify the chaos, and party-focused modes (free-for-all, teams, and objective variants) let groups tailor the fun. It’s a great pick for casual gatherings, streamers looking for goofy content, or anyone who enjoys slapstick, pick-up-and-play racers that reward laughter more than precision.

I hope you like the games, snacks and decorations I’ve include, have fun!

Pokemon Games Gift Guide

Gaming Chickadee — Tue, 11 Nov 2025 14:48:44 +0000

Gotta catch them all! but which one to start with? in this gift guide I’ll list some of the best Pokémon games for switch, hope it helps!

Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee

Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee! is a charming blend of nostalgia and modern simplicity, reimagining the classic Pokémon Yellow with the art style and mechanics of the Nintendo Switch era. It’s designed to welcome both newcomers and longtime fans with a lighter, friendlier approach. Instead of traditional wild battles, you catch Pokémon by using motion controls or touch gestures, much like Pokémon GO. Your partner Eevee isn’t just your starter — it rides on your shoulder, reacts to your actions, and can learn exclusive partner moves.

The Kanto region has never looked more vibrant, and the ability to see Pokémon roaming in the overworld adds a wonderful sense of life. While it’s simpler than mainline entries, Let’s Go Eevee! stands out as one of the most heartwarming Pokémon experiences, bridging the gap between casual and classic gameplay.

Pokemon Unite

Switching genres entirely, Pokémon Unite takes the world of Pokémon into the realm of team-based strategy and fast-paced action. It’s a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) where players control individual Pokémon, each with their own movesets and evolution paths, and battle in 5v5 matches to score the most points. The focus isn’t on catching or collecting but on coordination, quick reflexes, and smart teamwork.

What makes Unite unique is how it blends competitive strategy with Pokémon charm — Pikachu can zap entire teams, Snorlax can block opponents with its belly, and Lucario can dash through defenses. The game is free-to-play with rotating Pokémon selections and cosmetic unlocks, making it easy to jump into yet deep enough for competitive players. It’s Pokémon reimagined as an eSport, and surprisingly, it works.

Pokemon Sword/Shield

Pokémon Shield represents the first full mainline entry on the Switch and introduces players to the Galar region, inspired by the United Kingdom. It’s a mix of classic Pokémon adventure and modern updates like the Wild Area, an open zone filled with roaming Pokémon and dynamic weather. The introduction of Dynamaxing — temporary giant Pokémon forms used in battles — adds a flashy new layer to strategy.

Galar’s design balances cozy countryside charm with large stadium battles that feel like sporting events, and the gym leaders’ personalities help bring the world to life. While some fans found the story straightforward, the presentation and scope made Shield a key step forward in making Pokémon feel larger and livelier.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet

Pokémon Violet brings the franchise fully into an open-world format. Set in the Paldea region, inspired by Spain, the game allows players to explore freely, tackling objectives in any order. There are three main story paths — battling gyms, taking on massive Titan Pokémon, and challenging the rebellious Team Star — all intertwined in a surprisingly emotional narrative.

One of Violet’s most distinct features is its futuristic theme, contrasting with Scarlet’s past-focused aesthetic. Legendary Pokémon Miraidon doubles as your traversal partner, transforming into a motorbike-like creature for exploration. Though technical issues at launch drew criticism, the creativity, character design, and new Pokémon species made Violet an ambitious and memorable leap forward.

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond (and the original, just Diamond) brings players to the Sinnoh region, a mountainous land known for its deep mythology about the Pokémon world’s creation. The original DS version introduced online trading and battling, along with polished visuals for its time. Sinnoh’s story centers around the legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia, weaving science, myth, and moral tension into the adventure.

The remake stays faithful to the classic design, offering nostalgia with a modern polish. While it doesn’t innovate as boldly as other recent titles, its strong structure, balanced gameplay, and memorable soundtrack remind players why Sinnoh remains a fan-favorite generation.

Detective Pikachu

Detective Pikachu is a story-driven adventure game that follows Tim Goodman, a teenager searching for his missing father, and a unique talking Pikachu who claims to have worked with Tim’s dad as a detective. Together, they investigate strange events happening throughout Ryme City, interviewing Pokémon and humans alike, collecting clues, and solving a series of connected mysteries. The game focuses on narrative and character interactions rather than traditional Pokémon battles—each Pokémon’s personality and abilities play a role in uncovering the truth. With its light humor, cinematic style, and buddy-cop feel, it blends mystery-solving with Pokémon charm while gradually revealing a bigger conspiracy involving Tim’s father.

Detective Pikachu Returns continues the story of Tim and his gruff, coffee-loving Pikachu as they pick up new cases in Ryme City and get closer to understanding what happened to Tim’s missing dad. The sequel expands the world with new districts, more Pokémon to question, and additional partners Pikachu can team up with to use special abilities during investigations. While the gameplay remains focused on clue-gathering, puzzle-solving, and dialog, this entry leans even more into cinematic storytelling, offering larger set pieces and deeper emotional moments. The game aims to resolve lingering mysteries from the first title, delivering a more polished but familiar detective adventure filled with humor, Pokémon personality, and heart.

Together, these games show just how flexible and imaginative the Pokémon franchise has become. Let’s Go, Eevee! focuses on nostalgia and accessibility, Unite brings competition, Shield and Violet expand world design, Diamond grounds everything in classic storytelling, and Legends: Arceus paves the way for Pokémon’s future. Detective Pikachu has you solving mysteries. Whether you love cozy collecting, deep battles, open-world exploration or mysteries, each title captures a different facet of what makes Pokémon timeless.
