Which we do often. While taking our leisurely time, we tend to goof off. We noticed there are several other mini-games we can play within this one. Granted, you have to clean all the rooms and not place the last battery for this to work. But it’s worth it.

If you close a watering bot, sink, and bucket in vent rooms, then it takes a long time for the last clean, unpowered room to spawn any eggs. In the meantime, we play tag, hide and seek, and all kinds of other games.

One of our favorite is to setup the game where goo makes you faster. Then play to the point where every room is clean but don’t place the last battery. Make sure one player is dirty while everyone else is clean.

Leave watering bots in the vent rooms, have cleaning bots, chef bots, and use a bug spray on the last room if necessary. Then have everyone go to the beginning platform with a bunch of buckets, and start a countdown. One the game begins the dirty player runs off while everyone else grabs a bucket.

The idea is to chase the faster player around throwing buckets at them. Once they’re clean, the next person gets dirty and the game starts over.

You can add a watering bot or two if you need some help. Or have everyone get dirty and see who can avoid the watering bots the longest.

The next game we do is Cocoon. The goal here is to cocoon other players. This game requires the rule food explodes when it hits the floor. Time once the ship is stable with one room unpowered, you need to setup a lot of refrigerators stocked with food and some cleaning bots. Get a chef bot early in the game and they should have a good start by the time you get the ship stabilized.

This time, everyone starts at the beginning platform. Have a fridge full of food in the next room. Once the game begins, everyone starts running. One player heads to the fridge to grab some food while everyone else runs away. The player who’s it has to throw the food at the other players until they are cocooned.

Only the player throwing the food can shower. The other players have to stay dirty. The game finishes when all the players are cocooned. We let everyone take a turn and whoever cocooned everyone the fastest won.

You could also set a time limit, say 30 minutes and if a team member survives that long they win. One trick we found during this game is pulling batteries sets off refrigerators is like a bomb. Instant cocoon if a player is near it when the power is cut.

Cocoon was the first mini-game we played within Out of Space. Definitely our favorite. Bonus rule is dirty water so you can throw buckets of goo too.

Another variation is a free for all. Everybody for themselves trying to cocoon each other. Last player standing wins. Be careful with this one because if everyone gets cocooned the game is over.

The horde took a lot of time to setup but was actually worth the wait. The goal in this game was to outscore the bots. On one side were 12 chef bots, on the other were the players. The chef bots goal was to make meals from the aliens, our goal was to make battery cores from the aliens. Whoever has the higher score, meals vs power cores, wins.

The setup is a bit involved. As you clear the ship, save every alien and pumpkin you can in a refrigerator. Use the shower trick to avoid eating. Once the ship is clean of all goo and 1 power core needs placed you can start the setup.

A few exercise bikes will pay for all this stuff. You need two bases on opposite ends of the ship. Setup 12 chef bots, and 6 microwaves as far to one side of the ship as you can. Leave the doors closed to these few rooms. In the middle should be 3 or 4 refrigerators full of aliens and pumpkins. On the other side of the ship setup 3 or 4 mixers.

Once all the bots, mixers, and refrigerators are ready, you can begin. Have the other players wait by the mixers. One player will open a door to let out all the chef bots, and the games begin! Everyone has to steal items from chef bot before they put it in a microwave and get it in a mixer.

When all the refrigerators are empty the game is over. Count up how many batteries you have vs how many meals the bots made. The high score wins. The more stocked fridge’s there are the longer this game lasts.

It feels like you’re fighting off a horde of chef bots!

We try to incorporate mini-games within other games all the time. Some are flops, some are unintentionally hilarious. Someone accidentally cocooned another player in Out of Space, that’s what gave us the idea.

I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space and Overcooked All You Can Eat.

Out of Space is one of my favorite Switch games. Since the first game I’ve been hooked. It’s still fun after many hours spent trying to rid the ship of those pesky little aliens.

Along the way I’ve found good and bad ways to get through the game. Also a few tips and tricks.

A good strategy I’ve found is to immediately use the bucket to gain access to 3 or 4 rooms. Go deep, not just the closest rooms. This allows you to collect items from those rooms as well as stave off any eggs from generating.

Then fall back to the first room until you can power another room. Give some thought to the choosing the 2nd room to power. The best way to clear a ship of any size work along the outer wall in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

Instead of randomly going from room to room. Working in one direction along the outer wall keeps your front line small. I’ve found working in a direction that avoids the rooms with vents until the last works best.

Even working in one direction, there are exceptions. There are times taking one room makes more sense than proceeding in the same direction. Especially for dead end rooms, meaning they’re only connected to one room.

I usually save the vent rooms for last but sometimes the layout makes this impossible. A rug for vent rooms is a necessity. I only use bug spray once or twice, it’s not a long term solution.

For a vent room I get an extra sink, a water bot, and a bucket. If I have the resources, then I leave them all in the vent room and forget about it. Otherwise, I just leave them nearby.

We try to get an exercise bike before powering the 3rd room. Except for solo games, an exercise bike is a good buy early on. The extra money is the best trade off for time.

In my experience, pumpkin farms are expensive and time consuming compared to an exercise bike. Early in the game with only 2 rooms and an exercise bike you can easily rack up $100-200 to get a good start.

I’ve found powering 2 or 3 rooms then building up $600+ almost makes the game too easy. Rooms have a max capacity and with less than 3 powered rooms alien aggressiveness is low. So taking your time doesn’t punish you as much as you’d think.

A power core is usually the first buy, followed by a sink. For solo playing you don’t really need many items. I’ve played many 12 room games without getting any items other than power cores.

For solo you can get by with 1 pumpkin garden, 1 sink, 1 extra bucket, and just buying power cores. Buying a fridge or finding a small table helps to store stunned aliens so you can deal with them later.

There’s usually enough trash and aliens in each room to fund 12 power cores. However, getting an exercise bike and earning $60 makes life easier.

For an easy solo match win, take 2 rooms. Get an exercise bike and earn $250-$300. Get a mixer, sink, bucket, watering bot, and 1 power core. Then start taking new rooms. Once you have the money, get a cleaner bot.

If you have the resources a chef bot is a good option. Solo matches aren’t prolific on funds. So I’ve thrown in an occasional pumpkin to make my mixer useful.

There aren’t more than 4-6 aliens in any given room when playing solo. So taking a new room isn’t as hard as keeping it.

The chore of watering doors, pumpkin garden, and vents keeps you busy. But there’s usually a tipping point where there’s only a few rooms left and it gets easier.

After exploring the nearest 3 or 4 rooms for items. A power core and exercise bike are our first buys.

If you’re diligent about watering them you can get by with two pumpkin gardens. Otherwise an early microwave is necessary to keep everyone from starving.

We get a sink, mixer, and macrowave by the time 3 or 4 rooms are powered. A sink is a step saver. The mixer pays for itself by supplying power cores.

These items provide a quick disposal for aliens and save you from going back to the beginning for power cores. Even if you have 3 or 4 rooms left a mixer is still a good buy.

From here on out things get busy. Taking rooms 4 through 10 require a lot of housekeeping. Take you time and do all the chores before entering a new room.

Make sure your food and sleep meters are good before entering a new room. Also move your sink and alien disposal nearby. Moving items isn’t fun but a little thing such as a close sink makes a huge difference.

It’s easy to clear several rooms only to have everything undone because of not dealing with 1 sleeper or flying alien quick enough. Cut your losses and regroup if you’re ever overrun.

Giving up one room is better than losing the whole ship. It only takes one mistake to go from bad to worse. Containment is the goal. As long as you have some control of the room keep fighting.

The last few rooms have the most aggressive aliens. Housekeeping chores are at a minimum but dealing with aliens is at the maximum. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security.

Instead of watering doors, spend time closing doors. Expect aliens to go far as they can. Check all rooms for signs of eggs. Move items closer. Use the spare time prepping for the last few rooms.

While rushing in and placing the last power core rarely fails. We like to have a clean finish and dispose of all the aliens.

I have played Out of Space many times with 3 and 4 players. In my opinion, there is a huge leap in difficulty between 3 and 4 players. Sleeper aliens seem to be more common too.

I’d say 4 players is by far the most challenging (and most exciting) way to play. Alien eggs spawn much faster. There are many more aliens per room. You get hungrier faster and recover sleep much slower.

If you get overrun and 1 alien is allowed to run around loose for just a little it wreaks havoc upon your ship.

Your first purchases should be an exercise bike, a microwave, and power core in that order. Followed closely by a refrigerator and a mixer. Then get sinks, rugs, and lastly the bots.

You’ll need a microwave before taking the 3rd room otherwise players will writhe in pain on the floor clutching their stomachs. Unless you use the shower hack.

A fridge is very useful for storing aliens for later or until you get a mixer. Getting one early also allows you to build up food while things are slow during the first 3 or 4 rooms.

Taking rooms 5 through 8 are chaos. There’s a tipping point where rooms 9 and 10 seem to go easier. But the last 2 rooms are the easiest to get overrun.

You’ll need bots, rugs, and extra sinks to take and keep all 12 rooms. Yes, three strategically placed sinks are necessary in 4 player. Placing rugs makes retaking rooms easier, but not losing them in the first place is preferable.

Unlike 2 or 3 player matches you definitely need to coordinate attacking a new room with 4 players. You should have a player responsible for the door, one for a bucket, and two with mops.

Before you take a new room you should open the door and allow a few aliens out then quickly shut the door. Hit them with mops and water then dispose of them.

While you can take a new room in 4 player without this step. Skipping this step greatly increases your chances of being overrun.

By the time you get done dealing with those aliens, the room will probably be at max capacity again. However, thinning out the mutated aliens in a room does make it easier.

In 4 player, aliens refill a new room almost as fast as you can dispatch them. It can take a few waves of attack, but it does get easier.

Rushing in to the last room with a mop, a bucket and power core is riskier on 4 player mode. But it usually pays off. We prefer to at least clear it of live aliens first.

As you progress, it’s important to move your sink and preferred method of alien disposal closer to the action. Beds, food, and bots can stay behind but always have a sink less than 2 rooms away.

Check your meters, other doors, and vents before taking a new room. Be sure you aren’t close to falling asleep or a door spawning new aliens before opening a door to a new room.

A refrigerator is very useful item. As is a cleaner or chef bot. Watering bots are mixed blessing. All your buckets will end up at the beginning platform if you aren’t careful about placing a sink between a watering bot and the start.

Always have a bucket of water ready when opening a door to a new room, especially one with a narrow door. As the aliens pass through the bottleneck hit the group with the bucket of water.

Don’t rush into a new room with a mop. In our experience it’s better to let them come to you. Stand near the entrance and hit aliens as they try to enter your room. Once the bulk of the aliens have been dealt with then go in after stragglers.

I’ve found a rug in each room cuts down on the damage from stray aliens. We’ve found it also makes recovering lost rooms much easier.

Sleepy aliens are the hardest in my opinion. If you walk through the yellow sparkly stars and accumulate 4 you fall asleep. Don’t chase them unless they get past you. Let the dog go in the room or wait for the sparkles to go away before entering.

Keep plants or beds near to counter them. It’s time consuming but moving items close to new rooms is best.

Use the green unpowered rooms to your advantage. Think of them as buffer zones. Once you clean the floor and doors, shut the door. As long as you don’t open the door again, no eggs spawn. Leave the rooms past the green rooms for later.

You can grind up cocooned players to recover them. Tossing them into space doesn’t help but makes them a bucket head. Store cocooned players in the fridge.

Just for fun, we found out credits max out at $9,999. Then pizza went on sale for only $9. So of course we had to buy some! We spent over $6,000 on Pizza before the game crashed!

Most of the achievements are self explanatory. Just keep playing matches and you’ll get most of them. Achievements unlock gold versions of common items from the store.

The only achievements I needed help with were the unusual ways:

• Unusual way: No showering
• Unusual way: No cooking
• Unusual way: No resting
• Unusual way: Less shopping
• Unusual way: No killing

No showering and No killing are the most difficult challenges. The no cooking challenge isn’t so bad, just don’t use a macrowave. Buy an extra pumpkin garden per player to keep from starving.

No resting isn’t very difficult. Just don’t use a bed, chair, or couch. I found buying 4 decorative plants was enough to keep everyone awake. Or just sleep on the floor.

Less shopping is fairly easy. Do not buy any items from the powered category, including the shower. Use the bug spray on yourself if you’re close to being cocooned.

The quarantine spray is also useful for the no showering challenge. We sprayed ourselves before entering any new room. Then we were safe from any goo on the floor, spitter aliens, or picking up spikey aliens. The green spray protects you for 45 seconds.

The no killing challenge sounds hard but we got a few refrigerators to make like easy. The fridge can store 20 aliens each. Tables are Ok but take up a lot of room in my opinion. We found 4 fridge’s worked best for this challenge. Also an exercise bike was essential to make up the lost income from not killing the aliens.

Shower hack: By repeatedly entering and exiting the shower you can fully restore your food and sleep meter. You don’t need to take a full shower to take advantage of this.

The same button enters and exits the shower. Keep spamming the button while holding the stick toward the shower. Going in and out refills both meters in no time.

Refrigerator trick. Use a fridge to move multiple items. Instead of moving each item individually, place bots, power cores, or any item in the fridge and just move it to a new room.

The fridge holds 20 items. You can also grind up one fridge full of aliens or trash to save time grinding them up individually. A refrigerator is only $25 so a $12 loss is worth the time it saves.

While a fridge is one of the most useful items in the game, it releases all its contents when it loses power. If you plan on keeping a fridge close to new rooms get a can of quarantine spray and spray the power core next to the fridge.

The bug spray works on players too. If you need to pick up spiked aliens or close to being cocooned then use a can of bug spray on yourself. Bug spray is good but should be used sparingly. I rarely need it for 1 player mode.

Door trick. You can stun aliens through a closed door. Open the door and shut it again just before any aliens come out. While they’re still near the door hit it with a bucket. The dog also stuns them through the door too.

Retrieve trick. You can un-build the dog and bots to retrieve them. If they’re stuck in another room or you can’t find them, un-build them then place them again.

I’ve been playing Out of Space for a while and decided to critique it. It’s definitely high on my favorite game list. For a game with a simple premise, it makes for some challenging and fun game play.

The premise is you have to clean a spaceship of aliens and the goo they spawn from in order to power each room. You can play solo or up to 4 players. While choosing a ship with 6, 9, or 12 rooms.

The camera angle is above and fixed. Although, it does zoom out when there are more players.

Out of Space is galactic housekeeping at its finest. Couch Edition is for Steam, while the console version is for Nintendo Switch.

The game play is simple. You can pick up items, buy items, use items, and move around. No jumping or shooting, just dumping a bucket of water, using a mop, or common appliances.

You clean your way through all the rooms of a spaceship. Disposing of aliens along the way. Earning money as you cleanup and buying helpful items from the store.

Chores such as eating, sleeping, and cleaning keep you occupied between bouts with aliens. Once every room has power the game is won.

If you’re looking for action shooting aliens, this isn’t the game for you. The closest it comes to fighting is stunning aliens with a mop. The same mop you use for cleaning rooms. It’s a war of attrition game where you struggle to keep the goo from taking over.

The goal is placing power cores. When every room is powered you win, whether or not there are any aliens left.

If you like strategy or cooperative games then you’ll like Out of Space. For a game with little actual fighting I found it is very challenging. Strategically performing tasks or placing items is required to win.

You use a mop to stun the aliens and clean up the goo they spread. They don’t attack you directly. Rather they spread goo everywhere they go, including on you.

If you’re looking for a game that’s fun to play with friends or solo, this certainly is the right game for you. I’ve enjoyed every game solo or multiplayer, win or lose.

Being overrun and losing is chaos, but fun chaos. Since they don’t directly attack you somehow losing doesn’t sting as much. You almost have to admire the efficiency of the little gremlins spreading goo and spawning more aliens.

If you’re looking for a game that’s easy to learn, Out of Space has a small learning curve. By the 3rd game we felt ready to tackle 12 rooms. We didn’t win, but we sure went into it with every confidence we would.

One of the things I liked about this game is the developers made it so as you progress in skill so does the game. Tougher aliens are unlocked as you progress. But helpful items are also unlocked.

It’s funny how 6 rooms seemed challenging at first but after several games we cleared 6 rooms in 10 minutes. Even though a veteran can clear 6 rooms without difficulty, speed running through 6 rooms is still fun.

If you’re looking for a game that’s played in 5 or 10 minute blocks of time, this game isn’t an ideal choice. You should expect to play an hour. Time flies when you’re having fun though.

We tested this game with 1 player, 2 players, 3 players, and 4 players. Each additional player ramps up the max aliens per room. The timers for recovering sleep, egg production, aliens spawning, and aggressiveness were also ramped up per player.

In our experience solo was easiest, while 4 players was hardest. 2 and 3 players fell in the middle for difficulty during our tests.

In my experience, the average 12 room game lasts 45 minutes. If things go well clearing 12 rooms in 25 minutes is common. When things go bad I’ve had games that last 1 hour 20 minutes, but that’s rare. Usually, the game is over one way or another in under an hour.

If you only ever play this game with 4 players, it might seem a different game. With 4 players, one rogue alien can quickly overrun your entire ship.

Playing with 2 players, one alien hardly overruns more than one room. Recovery is much easier. Mistakes are forgiven.

Out of Space is a co-op couch game, comparable to Overcooked, Moving Out2, Very Very Valet, Lumber Hill, and Shakes on a Plane to name a few. If you like any of those you should like Out of Space too. I’ve played all those games and Out of Space is my favorite by far.

Out of Space is similar to Overcooked in that you’re all working together toward a goal. You do routine tasks in an efficient manner to win. Unlike Overcooked, Out of Space is actually fun playing solo.

In my experience, Overcooked has a bigger learning curve due to all the ingredients and steps necessary for an order. Out of Space is cleaning goo with a mop or bucket of water and getting rid of stunned aliens. All while keeping hunger and sleep at bay.

Out of space is forgiving as far as sleep and food goes too. Your character falls asleep at inopportune times to be sure. But eating and sleeping don’t dominate the game play the way ingredients do in Overcooked.

Instead of struggling with the timer in Overcooked, you’re struggling to keep aliens at bay in Out of space. Whether you get to the last room in 15 or 50 minutes, the same number of aliens are there.

I found Overcooked got infinitely more fun when they added an assist mode to change the timers. Out of Space ramps up the fun by switching up the rules.

If you’re struggling to win, do a random challenge where you get a bigger mop, additional dogs, no power requirements, or hyper-charged bots.

Conversely, if you want to make the game even more challenging, do a random challenge where you get cocooned with 1 hit, a limited store, only armored aliens allowed, or secret Santa.

Being able to choose a game with custom rules keeps Out of Space fresh. There are so many custom rules, each new ship is just different enough to keep it interesting.

Overcooked just puts the chopper in an inconvenient location or moves the ingredients around while you’re playing. I like Overcooked but inconvenient item locations got old real quick.

If Moving Out used aliens instead of furniture and added more ghosts and gremlins to get in the way, it would basically be Out of Space.

Instead of breaking everything in Moving Out, you’re trying to clean everything in Out of Space. Moving Out and Out of Space both have an easy learning curve, simple game play, and is loads of fun.

While you can’t slap other players in Out of space. You can have fun with other players by handing them useless items or tossing aliens at them. If you’re particularly cheeky, you can hog the couch. Hogging food may lead to solo play since nobody will play with you.

While Out of Space has a lot in common with Moving Out, Out of Space is much more challenging. Out of Space requires a strategy moving from room to room. The order in which you take each room directly impacts your workload.

It also requires much more coordination between players than Moving Out. While you can all do your own thing and still win, coordinated attacks make life easier.

Moving Out and Out of Space are two of my favorites. One because it’s fun breaking everything, the other because it’s challenging ridding a ship of aliens.

While Lumber Hill, Very Very Valet, and Shakes on a Plane are other multiplayer coop couch games, I’m not a fan of struggling against timers. All those games and Out of Space offer easy learning curves, simple game play, and loads of fun. However, I find Out of Space less frustrating.

Which is saying something. Because taking and losing a room over and over again in Out of Space is incredibly frustrating. But also rewarding when you finally win.

There’s just something about getting 3 out of 4 trees to the lumber yard, only for a meteor or animal delay you from getting the 4th tree there. Then it’s all for nothing and you have to start the order over.

Lumber Hill and Shakes on a Plane are the worst for this type of frustration. Out of Space doesn’t have a time limit. It actually has a max occupancy per room. So if you take your time with each room there’s no penalty.

The good things about Out of Space are the controls are easy, the game is intuitive, and there isn’t a time limit. The weekly challenges or choosing a random challenge keep the game from getting stale.

The bad things about Out of Space are the zooming out with multiple players and it’s easy to grab the wrong item. The camera zooms out when players spread out. So keep close when you’re fighting aliens.

The mop is especially sticky, which is good because you use it a lot but bad because it gets in the way when you’re trying to pick up other stuff. I’ve found turning 180° to drop it behind you works best.

One thing I should mention is 4 player is much harder than other modes. I’ve played a lot with 1, 2, 3 & 4 players and 4 people is noticeably more challenging than the others.

Sleep recovery is longer for players and aliens recover from being stunned quicker. Also, eggs and aliens spawn much quicker.

I didn’t notice any imbalance with 1, 2 or 3 players. They’re all fun and challenging from beginning to end. 4 players just gets a tad more intense after taking the 4rd or 5th room.

Losing and taking a room over and over happened more often with 4 players. I find the challenge exciting, some may find it frustrating. If you play with 4 people a rug in each room cuts down on the damage and recovery.

Those are minor criticisms though, overall the game is very enjoyable.

This Out of Space review gives it 9 out of 10 stars. Definitely my favorite game in a long time. Out of Space strikes a good balance between resource management and action. The game play isn’t bogged down trying to eat or sleep but they can’t be ignored either.

Instead of spending time developing multiple levels, bosses, or a storyline. They put a lot of effort into developing a balanced game. More games should follow their lead.

Fighting the clock or making routine tasks difficult are low effort ways to make games challenging. It takes a lot of effort to develop a game based on careful use of resources, employing effective battle tactics, and keeping pressure on the players.

Out of Space accomplishes this in a fun and engaging way. You can master it after several games, yet veterans enjoy fresh challenges by randomizing the rules.

If you’re looking for a fun game to play with friends or solo then Out of Space is an excellent option. I thoroughly enjoyed chasing the little aliens around the spaceship and cleaning up their goo.

Playing Out of Space is easy, winning at Out of Space requires a plan of action. Out of Space is among my favorite Switch games. The controls are simple and the objective is basic: provide power to each room.

Once you launch the game you begin by choosing how many players. The next screen is where you choose between 6, 9, or 12 rooms. Challenges require 12 rooms.

Challenges are where 3 alternate rules are set. The game generates weekly challenges which count toward achievements. Playing the same weekly challenge counts toward the achievements.

The other option is to generate a random challenge or enter a seed number. If you find a particular random or weekly challenge fun write down the seed number for later.

After configuring the rooms and rules you start the game. Once it gets to the “press A to continue” screen the game is going in the background. If you aren’t ready it’s best to hit A then pause the game.

All matches start with a pumpkin garden, a recycler, a mop, a bucket and a power core. The platform you start on has a water spigot.

• 1 Player matches start with $30
• 2 Player matches start with $20
• 3 Player matches start with $10
• 4 Player matches start with $0

The joystick moves you around. The X button uses the item in your hands, whether it’s eating, mopping, or dumping a bucket of water.

The A button is for picking up an item, petting the dog, or operating a door. The B button is for dropping items or breaking down an item back into a box so it can be moved. It also hands other players whatever you’re holding.

The Y button opens the store. Once the store opens, the top buttons are used to scroll through the store. When the store is closed the top left button displays your hunger and sleep meter. While the top right calls the dog.

If you only use 1 joycon, substitute Y for X, X for A, A for B, and B for Y.

Throughout the game you need to get additional items. When the game starts, there are no more than 2 items in each room in my experience. However, there is a challenge rule for limited store which allows for up to 4 items in each room.

Learning about each item is useful for making strategies. I’ve found knowing which ones help and which ones hinder my progress helps immensely.

Just because you can get an item doesn’t necessarily make it useful. Much depends on how many players you have, how far along you are, or how much money you have.

I’ll break down each item into categories. Then explain each items strengths and weaknesses. Items you can buy in the store fall into 4 categories:

• Favorites
• Powered items
• Furniture
• Accessories

Store items available in the favorite category are:

• Power core ($30). You need these to win the game.
• Mop ($35). 1 per player is unnecessary, many mops tend to get in the way. I’ve found 2 or 3 mops is fine for 4 players.
• Bucket ($40). You need at least 2 no matter how many players. 2 per sink is a good rule of thumb.
• Sink ($45). Crucial item. For solo 1 or 2 sinks are fine. For 4 players you’ll need 3 or 4 sinks depending on the vent room layout.
• Recycler ($15). You can stack items to be recycled so there’s no need for more than the 1 you start with no matter how many players.
• Quarantine Spray ($10). Useful around midgame when there are too many doors and vents that need watered regularly. They also protect players and power cores! Use sparingly though.
• Pizza ($15). Emergency item only. I love pizza, but rarely need it.

Store items available in the powered category are:

• Shower ($20). Good for the shower hack, reviving cocooned players, filling buckets of water, and cleaning your player. Still, not a necessity.
• Macrowave ($35). A must have to provide food during 3 or 4 player matches. Plus a quick disposal of an alien while waiting for the mixer to finish.
• Pumpkin Garden ($20). A good purchase for 2 player matches instead of a macrowave. More than 2 pumpkin gardens is overkill, get a macrowave.
• Mixer ($60). The most expensive item but worth it. Get one as early as possible. It allows for quick disposal of aliens plus pays for itself by providing power cores.
• Refrigerator ($25). Most useful item in the store. You can store any item inside. Then break it down to move up to 20 items to a different room. Grinding up 1 fridge with 20 aliens inside is a huge time saver.
• Cleaner bot CB-8 ($40). A useful bot. Eases the pressure on players. Not a necessary purchase but shouldn’t be overlooked if you have the money.
• Exercise Bike ($15). Required for 4 player matches. An excellent purchase for 2 or 3 player matches. Optional for solo match. Getting 1 bookcase to accompany your bike is a good idea.
• Outlet Extension ($10). Only necessary during certain challenge rules. It’s better to keep moving items between rooms than being tied to one room with outlet extensions.
• Chef BotD2 ($60). Also the most expensive item but extremely useful. It isn’t necessary until mid or late game.
• Watering Bot R2 ($50). Mixed blessing. It’s slow and can’t handle vent rooms unless everything is near. They also take buckets back to the start spigot if poorly placed. But wake you up if you fall asleep and keep things watered.

Store items available in the furniture category are:

• Armchair ($10). Probably the most bang for the buck. It takes up less room and coupled with a nightstand is as good as a bed.
• Bed ($35). Expensive buy and takes up a lot of room. If you have the room and money a good buy.
• Couch ($20). These take up nearly as much room as a bed. I usually get a bed or a chair/nightstand combo.
• Kitchen Table ($15). The most useless item in the store. You can put 4 things on it. It takes up too much room and the fridge is better.
• Table ($10). Also fairly useless but it’s better than the kitchen table. It only holds 3 items but doesn’t get it the way like the kitchen table. Instead get a fridge for the win!

Store items available in the accessory category are:

• Bookshelf ($25). Good accessory for the exercise bike but not much else.
• Decorative Plant ($20). A good buy. Place near the sink or food source. Get 3 or 4 and you’ll never need a bed.
• Rug ($25). Required for any vent room. Necessary in most rooms for 4 player matches. For 2 or 3 player matches strategic use is best, but they are not necessary for solo matches.
• Nightstand ($10). Good accessory for the chair but only slightly increases sleep recovery. If you have one room dedicated for sleep it’s fine. Otherwise inconvenient to haul around.
• TV ($20). Like the watering bot a mixed blessing. You have to be able to see it and remember to look at it. I wouldn’t buy one but I wouldn’t grind up any I find either.
• Lamp ($20). Almost as useless as a kitchen table. If you have aliens in a room going after a lamp you have bigger issues. If I find one I keep it, the rest I grind up.
• Family Portraits ($20). I wouldn’t buy one but I wouldn’t grind one up either. It’s rare for every player to be in the room to see any benefit from this item.

Know your enemy. The goo on the floor and doors eventually produces eggs. From the eggs spawn the standard dark pink aliens. Which make more goo everywhere they go.

Depending on the match rules, mutated aliens can also spawn. Mutated aliens are similar but have special abilities. The mutated aliens are:

• Snoozer. These are by far the hardest to deal with. Let them come to you, don’t run to them or through the sparkly yellow stars. Each star you accumulate adds to your sleep meter. It takes 4 stars to fill it. Prioritize eliminating these green gremlins.
• Leader. They speed up other aliens and are immune to the dog. Don’t panic, they’re just red, fast versions of the standard alien.
• Spitter. These are the flying purple aliens. Only the dog or a bucket of water stun them. They are easy to dodge but take out power cores and sinks with 1 hit.
• Spikey. They are the brown aliens with spikes. Not as bad as the others but don’t pick up too many or you’ll get cocooned.
• Bulky. These are the dark purple armored aliens that need hit with a bucket of water before you can stun them with a mop. The dog makes quick work of them. Next to sleepy, they’re the worst. They can consume a lot of time if there isn’t a bucket nearby.
• Swimmer. They are also dark purple like Bulky but have a smooth back. Hitting them with water wakes them up and increases their speed but they aren’t very difficult.

After too much contact with the goo you will cocoon. It’s game over on solo matches. But you can recover on multiplayer matches by putting them in the recycler or shower.

• Solo match: cocoon on 4th contact with floor goo. Spiked/Spitter alien 6th contact.
• 2 & 3 player match: cocoon on 2nd contact with floor goo. Spiked/Spitter alien 4th contact.
• 4 player match: cocoon on 2nd contact with floor goo. Spiked/Spitter alien 3rd contact.

There are a few ways to deal with being dirty. A shower or watering bot. For solo matches I get a watering bot. For multiplayer we get a shower or splash each other with a bucket.

While cleaning goo and disposing of aliens keeps you busy don’t forget other chores. Such as eating and sleeping. Also watering doors, vents, and the pumpkin garden.

Moving items after taking every other room is a chore but it is crucial to keep the sink and alien disposal near. Dispose of aliens in a mixer or fridge to be dealt with later. Only use a table if you find one.

Your player needs to eat and sleep before the meters are full. Otherwise they pass out and sleep where they are. A full hunger meter leaves them writhing on the floor until another player hands them something to eat.

Early game (one third of rooms powered) is about setting up and powering 2 or 3 rooms. By this time you may encounter a couple aliens. Instead of powering more rooms focus on getting useful items.

Explore rooms to get items, trash, and aliens. But spend it on useful items instead of power cores.

Midgame (two thirds of rooms powered) is when there are many chores requiring your attention and new rooms have many aliens. The items you acquired before expanding past 50% of the total rooms will help here.

Lategame is when there are only a couple rooms left and the cleaning chores have subsided some, money is abundant, and the tipping point is reached. It’s a good idea to regroup and move items closer.

The last couple rooms are deceptive. They usually have mutated aliens and are at max capacity. Not having a sink, rug, or means of alien disposal close can mean the difference between being overrun and an easy win.
