We added a Party Party Time review to our 4 player Nintendo Switch games collection. This game is a multiplayer couch game for up to 6 people. It offers a variety of minigames with 13 coop and 25 player vs player games.

These are games anyone can sit down and play. Instinctive mini game coupled with basic controls. It offers simple fun for anyone.

Party Party Time includes common mini games found elsewhere plus a few new ones. They mix up familiar games so they seem fresh. Plus the new ones are actually fun to play. There weren’t many klinkers.

I found the techno music catchy, as well as the player animations. From what I saw, the graphics are simple but their dance moves are hypnotizing. It’s a very colorful game too.

Party Party Time is also budget friendly in my experience. The base game includes many games. I got the expansion packs to add more games, skins, and characters. The expansion pack that adds 8 co-op and 22 player vs player games is worth it in my experience.

Why Party Party Time?

If you’re looking for a collection of minigames to play with friends, then this is a good option. We didn’t have to learn complicated controls or tactics to win. Most games we played had you controlling a character with a jump button and attack/action button.

We found the games are incredibly intuitive. The goals are clear and how to score points is obvious. There are a few exceptions, such as rock, paper, scissors. We thought that game was very confusing at first. But once we understood the game….it still sucked.

There were plenty of winners though. Some we played were improved versions of classics, like block breaker. While others were completely new based on Youtube challenges, such as fill the cup with water.

If you like puzzle, carnival, combat, shooting, racing, sport, card, and survive games then Party Party is an ideal choice.

We tested this game with 1 player, 2 players, 3 players, 4 players, 5 players, and 6 players. It was best with 4 players and no computer players.

When we played with 5 or 6 players it was a bit more confusing. Some of the games we got in each others way more. Other games shrank the screen a bit too much for us to enjoy.

When we played with 1 player, many games were fine. There were a lot of co-op games the computer players were no help at all. I had no problem beating the computer players on player vs player games.

Comparable Games

Of all the multiplayer games in our collection I’d say Party Party Time is most similar to Carnival Games or the Mario Party games. We liked Party Party Time much better than Carnival Games. Party Party Time games were just better and more diverse.

Party Party Time shares a lot of minigames with the Mario Party games: Super Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars. It isn’t near the level of graphics, animations, and menu screens of the Mario games in my opinion. But it captures the essence of the Mario mini games. Many of the Party Party Time minigames are just as good in my experience.

The Party Party Time appearance and sounds really reminds me of Tsum Tsum Festival. Only, Party Party Time has a much wider variety of games. The co-op games in Party Party Time are much more forgiving than the ones in Tsum Tsum Festival.

Overall, I liked Party Party Time better than Tsum Tsum Festival. Curling could be fun if you didn’t waste so much time watching animations. Don’t even get me started about how awful it is unlocking the same characters over and over in Tsum Tsum Festival.

Party Party Time doesn’t waste your time with a bunch of nonsense. Select your game and off you go. You want more skins? Just get the expansion pack. Done.

I found some of the games from Carnival Games frustrating. While others were redundant. Same game, different appearance. While some games from Party Party Time were redundant, there are so many to choose from it kept our interest.

Of all 68 games (with expansion pack), at least a dozen we considered our favorites. In our experience the majority were above average with the rest being average. There were only 5 or 6 duds.

Considering how many games you get for the price, I’m surprised there weren’t more winners. I was surprised by the amount of new games. Many are based on Youtube challenges or pop culture. Yet, turned out to be descent minigames.

Pros and Cons

The good thing about Party Party Time is it’s inexpensive. The expansion packs are reasonable too.

The drawback is minigames get dull quickly. This is an issue for any minigame really. It’s fun at first but quickly loses it’s appeal. Party Party Time is no different.

I hate to say it but Carnival Games is the worst offender for this. Some were just plain boring and others frustrating. There wasn’t enough variety with Carnival Games. Many of the games were too similar underneath.

That Party Party Time has so many minigames is its only redeeming quality. Sure some were the same basic game with a different appearance. But there is enough variety to obscure it.

If you aren’t jumping or moving out of the way, then you’re probably shooting or attacking something to earn points or time.

A couple of racing games and plenty of shooting games are included too. Fishing and Math games are thrown in as well.

Party Party Time includes sports games such as baseball, basketball, soccer (football to the rest of the world), and boxing. There are puzzle games like Tetris only with a twist. You have to avoid being crushed by the falling pieces and climb to the top.

For minigames the co-op games were good. Not as frustrating as other co-op minigames.

Their choice of player vs player minigames is good too. Simple but fun.

We found there was a game for everyone. Meaning, nobody totally dominated every mini game. There were some games people were naturals at and easily won. Then other games it was a toss up every time.

I can’t say that about every party game I’ve played. Which is why I decided to write a review about such an obscure game.

Review Summary

For our Party Party Time review, we gave it 7 out of 10 stars. Mainly due to the freshness of all the mini games. Most minigame themed games suffer from burn out. Meaning, they either space out gameplay with lots of animations or include tons of games to distract from the simplicity of individual games.

Party Party Time includes a ton of games to hold you interest. Playing the same minigame ovor and over would lead to boredom. But the sheer number of games keeps it from losing interest.

While Party Party Time isn’t going to replace any of our most played games on our Switch anytime soon. It is good filler for those times you’re not sure what game to play and looking for something different.

I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space and Overcooked All You Can Eat.

Party Party Time is a recent addition to our collection of multiplayer Nintendo Switch games. It comes with 38 minigames. Some are winners, some are losers in my opinion. Most of the minigames are above average though.

One sure thing is there are a lot of minigames. There are more player vs player than co-op games. All the games involve jumping, attacking, or perfect timing.

Since there are so many, I didn’t include the expansion pack. Here’s a guide to all the minigames in Party Party Time!

Player vs Player Mini Games

These minigames fall into different categories. Players try to eliminate others, score more points, or accomplish a task quicker than other players.

Battle Games

Bouncing Ball Bazooka: We had a bazooka that shoots balls at each other. The balls bounce off the walls and obstacles. It took 3 hits to eliminate our opponents. Be careful because your balls can hit you too!

Attack Ball: In this game we were inside a protective ball and the goal was to push everyone else off the platform. The button gives you a short dash. The outer rings periodically drop, giving you less and less space.

Bumper Tanks: The goal is to knock everyone else off the platform. Move around to avoid being shot while shooting at everyone else.

Water Shooter: In this game you drench other players with a water blaster. You have a health meter and a water supply meter. Once your health meter is empty you’re eliminated. You can refill your water blaster from any of the 4 pools of water.

Dodgebomb: In this game we ran around obstacles while dodging exploding bombs. We could pick up bombs before they explode and toss them at other players. Or just toss them away from yourself if ya’ll wanna be nice.

Block Changer: The goal is to change as many blocks to your color as possible. All blocks start as white. We ran around changing them while other players did the same. Whoever had the most blocks in their color won.

Perfect Dice: The goal is to keep rolling your dice until it matches the number on the screen. Once it matches stop rolling! You can attack other players to knock their dice off, forcing them to start over. The player that held the matching dice the longest earns the most points.

Water Shooter

Point Based Games

Stack ‘n’ Block: Similar to Pac Man. We ran around collecting blocks of our color. While also attacking other players so they lost blocks.

Mole Hammer: Just your average whack-a-mole game. We got an oversized hammer and ran around hitting any mole that pops up from a hole. We could also hit each other to temporarily stun them.

Slope Jumping: Basic obstacle course. We ran forward while dodging spikes, saws, bars, and balls. Points are earned for dodging obstacles and lost for hitting an obstacle. We could jump and attack plus get a power up for temporary speed boost.

Block Wiper: This game is like Hungry Hungry Hippo. You push as many blocks of your color as you can into your goal. Grad the power-up for a temporary speed boost. Gold blocks are worth more too.

Get Ball: The goal is to push as many balls in your goal as possible. Balls randomly fall in the center. There isn’t any dashing or attacking. A power-up temporarily gives you a speed boost. The gold ball is worth more than the colored ones.

Canon Defense: Basic shooting game. The goal is to shoot as many robots as you can before time runs out. Shooting the people mixed in with the robots looses points.

Skydive Scramble: The goal is to collect as many coins as possible. As you fall you move around to collect coins and attack other players. Large coins are worth more. Purple coins subtract money.

Scroll jump

Survival Games

Block Train: In this game the goal is to stay on the screen. There are several platforms covering the screen. Trains come along and will push you off unless you jump out of the way. Also other players can attack you.

Scroll Jump: In this game the goal is to stay on the screen. You jump from one set of blocks or triangle shape to another as they scroll up or down off screen. If you can’t get to another platform before rising or falling off screen you lose. You can also attack other players if you’re really competitive.

Sucker Punch: The goal is to not fall off the platform. The floor changes color warning you which one of the boxing gloves are going to strike. You can also attack other players to push them off the map.The last player standing wins.

Runaway Balls: The goal is to stay on the platform while a ball shoots out from different pipes and bounces around. You have to run and jump out of its way. Also, you can attack other players to help them off the platform.

Survival Reversi: This is Reversi aka Othello. It’s played on a grid of spaces. You start in the middle and choose to take one of the adjoining spaces. As we took a new space it changes all the spaces diagonally, vertically, or horizontally between your colored spaces. The player with the most spaces wins.

Mole hammer

Timing Games

Perfect Timer: The goal is to press the button to match the time displayed. A counter starts counting but disappears after 5 seconds. You have to keep counting and stop the timer as close as you can to match the displayed time.

It’s Thataway!: The goal is to be the first to move in the same direction as the arrow once it appears on the screen.

Timing Stamp: The idea is to time your jumps to land on the moving white patches. But only as it passes through the outlined square. Smaller white patches are worth more than standard size ones. There’s no attacking in this game.

Bomb Roulette: You have to enter a sequence of buttons and directions before time runs out to pass the bomb to the next player. It wasn’t balanced, since whoever got the last spot usually won. We found every new round added complexity to the point the first 3 players lost and the 4th won by default!

Dance This Way: In this minigame a dancer performs some moves. You memorize the pattern of buttons, then it’s your turn to enter the correct pattern. All those hours in my youth playing Simon helped for this game.

Spinning cube

Co-op Mini Games

UFO Collectors: Players control a UFO to collect as many balls as possible. Putting colored balls in their corresponding colors earns more points.

Try-Umph: Players work together moving a jar to collect falling balls. Everyone holds a corner and has to move in the same direction. We enjoyed this game but I can see how some are going to find it frustrating.

Matching Dots: Players work together to build pixel art. We picked up a tile from a palette of 4 colors. Then placed it on the grid accordingly. We had to work fast before time ran out.

Everybody Calculate!: Players work together to solve math problems. We had to stand on random numbers to make the math work. I hate to admit it but randomly running around worked better than figuring out the math!

Climb! Block: Players try to climb to the top as Tetris pieces fall. Only one player has to succeed climbing to the top.

Spinning Cube: Players try to stay on the spinning cube as robots attack them and obstacles get it the way. Only one player needs to survive to win.

Everybody Go!: Players are attached at the hip as they make their way through an obstacle course. Every step or jump depends on all players hitting the correct button.

Catch and Pong: Players catch balls as they fall out of pipes. The balls take a random path through the maze of pipes. Putting the colored ball in it’s corresponding colored bit earns more points.

Shooting Ball: Players shoot balls into the basket to earn points. Gold balls are worth more than standard colored balls.

Cannon Shot: Players shoot cannons at targets. The blast is big enough to hit two or more targets with one shot.

Jumping without Falling: Players do simple math problems to find the correct platform to stand on. Each player has one math problem. Then we had to jump across to the correct platform before time ran out.

Block Labyrinth: Players need to move blocks to make a path to the exit before time runs out. This was one of my favorites.

Bang! Bang! Hammer: Players time the hammer strike for maximum power. They need to earn enough points before time runs out. We each got a turn with the hammer. As long as we all got consistently good strikes, we had success!

Most Party Party Time mini games are fun and easy to play. We didn’t like the math ones. Our favorites were the cooperative games. The player vs player games were good too.

Since there were many games to choose from the gameplay didn’t go stale. I liked that you just choose a game and started. Some party games have a lot of cut scenes before, during, and after playing that bog it down.

Party Party time was easy to learn and had a variety of games in my experience.

Can you play Party Party Time online?

We could not play online. There are only twe modes: free and Party. Free mode is where we just choose what minigame we wanted to play until we quit. Party mode is where we choose between 5, 10, or 14 randomly chosen minigames with the winner achieving the most points.

I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space, and Overcooked All You Can Eat.
