Bluey the Video Game Review

Why Bluey the Video Game?

Bluey: the Video Game is a warm, playful, and family-friendly experience that captures the heart and humor of the beloved animated series. Designed with younger players and families in mind, the game focuses on imagination, exploration, and cooperative play rather than competition or difficulty. Much like the show itself, this game celebrates everyday moments, creative play, and the joy of spending time together.

From the very beginning, the game feels welcoming. The visuals closely match the bright, clean art style of the TV series, making it instantly recognizable to fans. Locations feel like stepping directly into Bluey’s world, with familiar environments brought to life in a way that feels both playful and interactive. Characters are expressive and full of personality, staying true to their on-screen counterparts and helping the game feel authentic and charming.

Gameplay is intentionally simple and accessible. Controls are easy to learn, making it suitable for young children or players who are new to video games. Instead of focusing on winning or losing, the game encourages exploration, playful interactions, and imaginative activities. Players can run around environments, interact with objects, and participate in lighthearted mini-games that reflect the imaginative play Bluey is known for. This design allows kids to enjoy the experience without pressure, while adults can relax and play alongside them.

One of the strongest features of Bluey: the Video Game is its emphasis on cooperative play. Multiple players can join in, making it a great choice for families who want to play together. Cooperation feels natural rather than forced, and this game avoids competition that might cause frustration or conflict among younger players. This mirrors the themes of teamwork and family connection found in the show, reinforcing positive values through gameplay.

The tone of the game is gentle and joyful. There is no combat, no harsh penalties, and no high-stress challenges. Mistakes don’t feel punishing, and progress is forgiving, allowing kids to experiment freely. This makes the game an excellent choice for parents seeking a safe, age-appropriate gaming experience that aligns with the wholesome nature of Bluey.

However, the game’s simplicity can also be a drawback for some players. Older children or adults looking for deep mechanics, long-term challenges, or complex progression systems may find the experience too shallow. Activities are designed to be fun and accessible rather than demanding, which may limit replay value for players seeking more depth. The game is best enjoyed as a shared family experience rather than a traditional solo gaming challenge.

Despite this, the game succeeds in delivering what it sets out to do. It feels less like a typical video game and more like an interactive extension of the show. Its focus on imagination, kindness, and playful exploration makes it especially appealing to younger audiences and fans of the series.

How We Test Games

For testing games we use a Nintendo Switch firmware version 2H. Hardware includes Joy-con and Pro controller on a large screen TV. Tests are done with up to 5 players. We take turns playing and evaluating games.

Whenever possible we play multiple players. We also use a Nintendo 2DS, DS XL, and for PC games we use a Ryzen 7 1700x CPU, AMD RX580, running on Win 10. This game is up to 4-players on one Nintendo Switch.

  • Easy-to-learn controls ideal for young players
  • Strong cooperative play for families and siblings
  • No combat or high-stress mechanics

  • Safe, wholesome, and age-appropriate

Summary

Overall, Bluey: the Video Game is a delightful, family-oriented title that prioritizes fun, creativity, and togetherness. While it may not satisfy players looking for advanced gameplay systems, it excels as a gentle introduction to gaming and a joyful way for families to play together. For fans of Bluey, it offers a comforting and familiar experience that stays true to the spirit of the show.
