Does Nintendo Switch have Games for Family?
Nintendo Switch offers the most games for family I’ve ever seen. If you want to play video games as a family, then the Nintendo Switch is a great place to start.
While violent video games are prolific, there are many wholesome games too. For example, Yoshi’s Crafted World is absolutely incredible. The crafty world appearance is so good, it’s fun to just sit and watch our kids play even though it’s only 2 players.
We spend one day a week as a family playing on our Nintendo Switch. Some of our favorites are Moving Out 2, Overcooked, Out of Space, Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Disney Tsum Tsum festival to name a few.
These games are fun and don’t require much skill. While we enjoy board games and card games too, the Switch provides another activity to do as a family.
If you’re thinking about getting a gaming console for the family, then I recommend the Nintendo Switch. It has many family friendly gaming titles. Plus it has motion controls similar to the Wii.
Few Switch games take full advantage of the motion controls but the ones that do are still fun. The most common games that use it are Super Mario Party and Disney Tsum Tsum festival.
The Switch does have an online mode but you have to subscribe to activate it. We’d much rather play games with each other locally in our family room anyway. Ours only uses the internet connection to download games and update software.
Our Favorite Family Friendly Games
The Mario party games are good games to start with. Even though they sound the same, they are actually two different games:
Each game is made up of over 80 minigames. They support up to 4 players. Even though we have more than 4 players, it’s fun to watch the other play. Plus we occasionally swap out players.
The whole family can enjoy watching two player games too. Totally Reliable Delivery Service is hilarious to watch. Lego Worlds and Incredibles are fun to watch as well.
As mentioned before, Yoshi’s Crafted World is only 2 players but the graphics are so good we like to just sit and watch others play it. Paper Mario falls into this category, but it’s also a tear jerker. I’ve found watching others play these games is just as much fun.
For four player fun Overcooked, Moving Out 1 & 2, Out of Space, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are our go to games. However, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Sonic Superstars, and Mario & Sonic Olympics are also popular choices in our family.
Kirby games are also family friendly. Kirby Star Allies and Kirby Fighters 2 are fun 4 player games.
Honorable mentions in our home are:
- Very Very Valet
- Snipper Clips
- Mario Tennis Aces
- Party Party Time
- Cake Bash
- Tools Up!
- Lumberhill
- Carnival of Games
Multi Player Games
While there’s no shortage of family friendly games on the Switch. I should give a word of warning about 8 player games. Many games advertise as 8 players but this is misleading. They actually mean 8 players online.
Playing online is not included when you buy a Nintendo Switch. A subscription service is required for many 8 player games. Which means only 4 players are local. The rest are from the internet.
The only option for 8 players in the same room is getting another Switch and connecting them. The most we’ve played with on one single console is 8 players in Mario Strikers Battle Legue.
We’re still disappointed Totally Reliable Delivery Service advertises 4 players locally but has not been updated for the Switch. It only allows 2 players locally.
We have enough 4 player games to keep us entertained. But we had to read the fine print to avoid buying many games that touted 4-8 players. Which turned out to support only 2 locally and 8 online.
Summary
The Nintendo Switch has many games to choose from. In my experience it offers the most family friendly games of any console. We enjoy playing video games as a family and have no regrets getting our Switch.
If you’re wondering whether a Nintendo Switch has games for the family then the answer is yes, family games galore!
FAQ
Does Nintendo Switch have Games for Family brought to you by David M.
I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space and Overcooked All You Can Eat.
