Ms. Holmes: The Monster of the Baskervilles – Review

We recently played some of the Ms. Holmes games and we liked them a lot. It reminded us of the Dossier Nancy Drew games. This is the first game in the series of Ms. Holmes, and it’s called Ms. Holmes: The Monster of the Baskervilles, here is my review for the game.

Why The Monster of the Baskervilles?

Ms. Holmes: The Monster of the Baskervilles is a hidden object puzzle adventure (HOPA) game that blends classic detective mystery with supernatural twists. It’s the first installment in the Ms. Holmes series.

The game follows Ms. Holmes as she investigates a chilling case involving a monstrous creature terrorizing the countryside—a fresh take on the legendary Hound of the Baskervilles tale. The narrative is full of twists, with mysterious characters, hidden family secrets, and a touch of the paranormal. The voice acting and dialogue help drive the suspense and maintain a moody, atmospheric tone throughout.

The game features the traditional point-and-click HOPA format, with plenty of hidden object scenes, logic-based puzzles, and inventory challenges. The puzzles vary in difficulty and creativity, keeping the experience fresh and enjoyable. The hidden object scenes are well-designed and interactive, adding more immersion.

Visually, the game is rich in detail and leans into the dark, gothic aesthetic of Victorian England. The backgrounds are hand-painted and atmospheric, with nice touches of animation. The soundtrack complements the spooky mystery vibe, and the sound effects enhance key moments, particularly when the “monster” makes an appearance.

There are collectibles, morphing objects, and bonus content that extend the gameplay for completionists. A bonus chapter continues the story with a new mystery, providing a satisfying epilogue.

How We Test Games

For testing games we use a Nintendo Switch firmware version 2H. Hardware includes Joy-con and Pro controller on a large screen TV. Tests are done with up to 5 players. We take turns playing and evaluating games.

Whenever possible we play multiple players. We also use a Nintendo 2DS, DS XL, and for PC games we use a Ryzen 7 1700x CPU, AMD RX580, running on Win 10. This game is up to 1-players on a computer/steam.
