My Sims – Review

MySims is a game we played on a CD before for the PC. Now we got it for Steam and played it all together, and it’s lots of fun. Here is my review for the game.

My Sims - Review

Why My Sims?

MySims is a charming, family-friendly life simulation game that reimagines The Sims series with a colorful, cartoon-like style and simplified gameplay. Aimed at younger audiences and newcomers to the genre, it trades complex simulation for creativity and exploration.

In MySims, you arrive in a struggling town and are tasked with revitalizing it by attracting new residents and helping them build businesses, homes, and hobbies. You customize your character, build furniture and buildings, and collect “Essences” (special materials) by shaking trees, mining, fishing, and completing tasks.

Unlike traditional Sims games, your character doesn’t have needs like hunger or energy. Instead, the focus is on building and decorating to suit other characters’ unique personalities and styles.

The building system is surprisingly deep—you’re not just placing pre-made items, but crafting furniture and structures piece by piece using blueprints and Essences. It encourages creativity in a kid-friendly way.

The game’s art style is cute and approachable, with chibi-like characters and bright, blocky environments. The animations are simple but effective, and the colorful visuals are ideal for the target audience.

Sound design includes cheerful background music and gibberish “Simlish”-style voice effects. While not complex, it adds to the cozy atmosphere of the game.

Each resident has a unique theme—goth, geek, sporty, sweet—and your relationship with them improves as you meet their requests. The characters are fun, quirky, and add personality to the town, making you feel like your work is making a real impact.

How We Test Games

For testing games we use a Nintendo Switch firmware version 2H. Hardware includes Joy-con and Pro controller on a large screen TV. Tests are done with up to 5 players. We take turns playing and evaluating games.

Whenever possible we play multiple players. We also use a Nintendo 2DS, DS XL, and for PC games we use a Ryzen 7 1700x CPU, AMD RX580, running on Win 10. This game is up to 1-player on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii/Wii U, PC/Steam and more.

Pros

Creative and engaging building mechanics.

Kid-friendly and approachable gameplay.

Quirky characters and customization.

Encourages exploration and creativity.

Cons

Repetitive tasks can feel grindy over time.

Slow pacing may not appeal to all players.

Lacks depth compared to mainline Sims games.

Occasional camera and control issues (especially on Wii).

Summary

Overall, MySims is a lighthearted and imaginative spin on the Sims franchise that puts creativity front and center. While it lacks the depth of its bigger siblings, its charm, simplicity, and design freedom make it a delightful experience for kids and casual gamers. If you enjoy building, collecting, and helping a quirky town thrive, this is a great choice. It’s a Wholesome creativity wrapped in a cute, quirky package.
