Nancy Drew Mystery of the Seven Keys – Review

After waiting for over a year since the announcement, Nancy Drew Mystery of the Seven Keys is here! And this is my review for the game.

Mystery of the Seven Keys was a lot of fun and one of my favorite Nancy Drew games to play! It had fun puzzles, conversations and areas to explore, like most Nancy Drew games do.

Nancy Drew Mystery of the Seven Keys - Review

Why Mystery of the Seven Keys?

This game isn’t the same as most Nancy Drew games but does feel more like them than Midnight in Salem did.

Mystery of the Seven Keys was more like another game series than a Nancy Drew series but Mystery of the Seven Keys feels like an updated version of the Nancy drew games series which I liked better than Midnight in Salem. Although Midnight in Salem is a great game, it just doesn’t feel like a Nancy Drew game to me.

This game isn’t as spooky as Midnight in Salem. There is only three parts that are that “spooky”. I’ll try not to give spoilers but you encounter the “Spooky Knight” two or three times. You need to get away from them and then you’re done with them.

There is also a “haunted tour” which is meant to be spooky so just be prepared. On a scale from 1 (not really scary) to 10 (really scary) This game is probably a 1 for scary.

How We Test Games

For testing games we use a Ryzen 7 1700x CPU, AMD RX580, running on Win 10. Tests are done with up to 5 players. We take turns playing and evaluating games.

This game is only 1-player and it’s for PC/MAC. We’ve been playing together on two computers on the Steam version for this game. My computer however does not meet the minimum graphics of 750. Mine has a 730 but the game still works.

The only part that doesn’t is the Coffee maker minigame when they request something that needs “Steamed Milk”. That’s because when they want “Steamed Milk” they want you to do “latte art” which does not work.

Whenever possible we play multiple players. We use a Nintendo Switch firmware version 2H. Hardware includes Joy-con and Pro controller on a large screen TV. We also use a Nintendo 2DS, DS XL.

Pros

This game is waaay more like the other games than Midnight in Salem. You can choose “Point and Click” which is more like the other Nancy Drew games. Talking to characters is more like the other games too.

Mystery of the Seven Keys is a lot of fun! We’ve played this game like three times in a row! It’s just that much fun. It also has more easter eggs than Midnight in Salem more like the other games.

Cons

Well this game isn’t the exact same kind of game as all the other Nancy Drew video games but it is more similar than Midnight in Salem.

There is a puzzle that isn’t exact to what they want you to do. It being a math puzzle makes it a bit hard to solve if they don’t let you know what you need to do. But most of the puzzles were fun and easy to understand what they need you to do.

Summary

Overall, Nancy Drew Mystery of the Seven Keys is great and fun to play over and over like most of the other Nancy Drew video games. Great puzzles, cutscenes, areas and so much more. For people who liked the old Nancy Drew game series will like this game and the people who liked the new one like Midnight in Salem will also like this game.
