The general idea of the game is to give you a topic then have your team come up with as many answers as they can by prompting them with the beginning letters. The team who scores the most points wins.

Keeping track of everything gets a bit messy, but overall not bad. Plus the game is a lot of fun. It’s a great game for a large group of people at a party.

Anyone who likes word games is going to enjoy this game. If you also enjoy team games then this game is ideal for you. It isn’t a quiz or trivia game. There really isn’t even a strategy. Really Loud Librarians is primarily about how many and how quickly you can recall items, given a topic.

For example, you’ll be asked to name “things you fear”. Of course, some wiseacre could come up with wild answers such as Kentucky, igloos, or anteaters. Anything to score points.

It’s up to the players to decide whether an answer counts. I’ll say it’s kind of hard to object to an answer when you’re laughing so hard. But that’s the type of game you get with Really Loud Librarians. It’s a good party game.

This is an ideal game for anyone who enjoys word games. Phrases and titles are part of it too. It’s also a game for people who like team games. The pressure isn’t on any individual. This game is a team effort.

We tested this game with 5 players. We played at a standard kitchen table. The birthday girl got to play on both teams. We followed the rules and used chips to mark each teams progress around the track.

Really Loud Librarians seems most like Scattergories of all the games I’ve played. In both games, there’s a timer and you have to recall as many items as you can. In Really Loud Librarians, you don’t need to write anything down. Everything is done by moving pieces and parts on the board.

Score is kept by the pieces in the middle of the track. Chips are used to assist keeping track of laps and bonus points. Scattergories uses a dice to pick a letter whereas whatever letters fall in the circles are used in this game.

Really Loud Librarians also bears similarities to Boggle, Scrabble, Password, or Catch Phrase. Mostly because they’re all word games, not trivia or strategy games. Most of the games are individual efforts while Really Loud Librarians is definitely a team game. All are also great games at parties.

Really Loud Librarians isn’t very difficult to learn. The basic premise is simple and anyone can be good at this game. Our group thoroughly enjoyed playing this game.

My only criticism is with the track and moving parts of the game. Players had to lean in to see which letters were in play during the game. Also, keeping track how many times you went around the track, the bonus points, and the timer wasn’t easy.

We had to assign players from the other team to keep track of the timer, bonus points, and number of laps. We also didn’t bother changing the color of the track piece for each turn. The different librarian pieces were neat, but we found them unnecessary.

Overall, our Really Loud Librarians game review gives it 9 out of 10 stars. We had a great time playing this game. Our answers were off the wall at times and other times it was impressive to see just how many items players could name. One player single handedly made several laps with their ability to name titles!

Each player gets some cards and a bag of train cars to mark their tracks. Matching color cards are used to get tracks. While ticket cards set the destination cities your tracks. Completing circuits between cities and acquiring tracks earn points. The goal is to earn more points than everyone else.

Overall, it’s a competitive game involving strategy to win. On par with games like Risk or Monopoly. Ticket To Ride isn’t a short game, it took us about two hours to complete one game. It wasn’t our cup of tea since we go for fast paced card games and low key board games. However, Ticket To Ride is definitely a high quality game, especially for anyone who likes competitive strategy games.

Anyone who likes competitive games or strategy games is going to enjoy Ticket To Ride. The strategy aspect is subtle, but there are several strategies available.

Players can stockpile cards before building any tracks to keep their plans secret. They can build random segments to keep other players guessing. Players can also get key smaller tracks early to force other players to go on lengthy detours later.

For a game that’s about connecting train tracks there’s a surprising amount of strategy and competition involved. Anyone who likes highly competitive games is going to enjoy Ticket To Ride.

How We Tested Ticket To Ride

We tested this game with 4 players. We followed the rules but added card trading to speed up the game.

Comparable Games

Ticket To Ride is mostly comparable to Monopoly or Risk. These games involve strategy and chance. Risk and Monopoly rely on the roll of the dice to determine outcomes. Whereas Ticket To Ride involves drawing good cards. The rules don’t mention it but we felt adding card trading to the mix was a great improvement.

Risk is mostly about acquiring and keeping territories. In both games players benefit from acquiring territory or track. Once a player gets a span of train track in Ticket To Ride they keep it. Risk is about armies and dice rolling, while Ticket To Ride is about drawing cards and acquiring train tracks to complete circuits between cities. I couldn’t help feeling Ticket To Ride really felt similar to Risk, minus the battles.

Ticket To Ride also felt similar to Monopoly, since winning involved acquiring prime real estate in the form of train tracks. There isn’t any money or rent in Ticket To Ride. Tracks are purchased with cards. Still, connecting valuable routes throughout the game really racks up the points. Instead of bankrupting other players, Ticket To Ride has players blocking other players from completing critical connections.

Risk, Monopoly, and Ticket To Ride are all high quality board games. Again, they aren’t our cup of tea but I recognize Ticket To Ride is on par with those games as far as strategy and competition.

Strategy is the best aspect of Ticket To Ride. It doesn’t rely on dice rolls to determine the outcome. There’s still a bit of luck since players definitely need to draw good cards to win. However, a large part of the game is planning out good routes and anticipating other players moves.

I didn’t care for the slow pace. Only being able to do one action per turn seems to bog it down. A player can either draw cards or purchase track during their turn. Not both. It’s not a short game.

Our Ticket To Ride game review gives it 7 out of 10 stars. We’re not monopoly or Risk fans, so we weren’t thrilled about this game. If you like those games, then Ticket To Ride would probably score a 9 out of 10.

Our girls are huge fans of the Nancy Drew books. And the movies. And the computer games. So naturally we had to give the board game a try too. It turns out to be quite a hit.

It’s a bit like Clue, and they love that game as well. However, there’s a lot more going on in this game. It’s less about making accusations and more about deductive reasoning. Basically, players go through a process of elimination.

Players have more choices and actions based on where they land or what cards they draw. So it feels more action packed than Clue, which can lag at times.

We weren’t expecting much after opening it and reading the rules. However, it turned out to be a lot more fun than we anticipated. We found creative ways to eliminate suspects and hinder others efforts.

The game went faster than games of Clue. All in all it’s found a regular spot in our game nights because it turned out to be so much fun.

Another board game which wound up being more fun than we anticipated is Alice in Wonderland Mad Tea Party. This game involves balancing tea cups on a wobbly table.

It’s a bit like Jenga for kids. Players draw cards and perform the task required. Which involves selecting a tea cup and balancing in a specific spot. Eventually, the stack of tea cups falls and the game is over.

It’s definitely one we all enjoy. Placing tea cups can be nerve wracking but watching the whole stack come tumbling down brings out many laughs. I guess everyone enjoys making a pretend mess.

This game takes Clue to another level. It appeals to the detective in everyone. We pieced together Clues to eliminate suspects, reveal the weapon, and ultimately solve the mystery.

We played it as a co-op game and enjoyed it immensely. There’s something about working together as a team that really appealed to our girls. Teamwork can turn out badly in some circumstances. But when playing with friends or family it usually turn out to be a great experience.

Even though everyone gets a turn, we generally worked together to figure out everything. Clue Escape Room is perfect for mystery lovers everywhere.

These games were ones we looked forward too. Ones we couldn’t get enough of. Times may change but games that appeal to kids rarely do. Games like tag or hide and seek aren’t going away anytime soon.

As for board games, I think these are going to be appealing to kids for a long time to come.

We never tire of playing this game. Many epic sessions lasting several days have been played before a victor emerged. Modern digital versions allow kids to pause or save a game for later. For the physical version, you just have to leave the board as is and come back the next day.

Risk started as a board game but is so popular digital versions are available for your phone or computer. Personally I’d rather be rolling dice to see if my army wins as opposed to pressing a button. But to each their own. The game is great whether it’s digital or physical.

Kids layout their army and strategize to conquer the board. It may sound like they’re trying to take over the world. However, it could just as well be about conquering counties or just one battlefield. Don’t worry about this game putting any ideas about world domination.

Risk is about defensive points, flanking, and resource management. Having successful strategies or tactics made this game so much more fun than some simple game like checkers.

Another board game that rarely sits on a shelf around boys is Stratego. It’s only two players but it’s one of those games that’s as fun to watch as it is to play. Most boys I knew loved this capture the flag type board game.

Each player sets up their armies, mines, and flag. The catch is each player can’t see the others setup. A flag can be guarded by bombs, high ranking pieces, or just unlikely spaces. The game is about discovering each players army piece by piece.

If you want a game that develops one’s memory this is it. It isn’t a terribly complex game but is incredibly fun. Every game is different since there’s many possible ways to setup the board. It’s definitely an underrated board game kids like.

Who hasn’t heard of Battleship? It’s a very popular game for a reason. Battleship‘s appeal is partly due to it’s fleet of miniature ships and realistic operation panel. Kids get the feel of being in command of a naval battle.

Battleship, like the others, is very competitive game. It’s a productive and fun way to work off that competitive energy. It’s more prone to cheating than the others, but if you keep track of each others misses, that puts an end to that.

We played this game as much as the others. It also has a digital and online versions. But the original is the best in my opinion.

Why Clue?

Clue is very fun family game. Sure, murder isn’t, but it’s not at all gory so I think it’s great game for families to play.

Players take on the roles of suspects in a murder case, including iconic characters like Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, and Professor Plum. The objective is to deduce three key elements of the crime:

Who committed the murder?
What weapon was used?
Where the crime took place?

Using a combination of movement, questioning, and deductive reasoning, players gather clues by exploring the mansion and secretly marking findings on their detective sheets. The first player to correctly solve the mystery wins.

Clue is a great game and fun for the family. You take three cards a person, item and place and put them into a envelope then deal out the rest of the cards to everyone. The point of the game is to try and find out what’s in the envelope.

It’s up to 6 players, there is also a card game version but that’s only 4 players. I recommend getting this game for those who like family play.

There are lots of different versions of the Classic Clue game, here is the top 10.

Of course, The original classic clue brings back memories. In the game there is the classic versions of Miss Scarlett, Mrs. Peacock, Con. Mustard, Prof Plum, Mr. Green and Mrs. White instead of Dr. Orchid.

For younger players there’s Clue Junior. Instead of murder there a broken toy or missing toys and things like that.

Then there’s Clue but with cards. In the Clue card game you only use cards, no boards or pieces.

Hasbro has also made Clue versions with iconic characters like Squishmallows, Scooby-Doo, The Golden Girls, The Grinch and much more.

Clue (Master Detective) adds more characters, rooms and weapons to make things harder.

Clue Escape Room Board Game (Treachery at Tudor Mansion) is a great co-op version of Clue. You all have to work together to solve a one-time solve mystery.

They also have Clue for the PC. It takes the classic clue game and adds animations and other helpful power-ups.

Chickadee loves to have family gaming days. She loves birds, unicorns, ponies She also likes the Nancy Drew Games. She loves to play as Princess Daisy in the Super Mario Games, Her favorite games change a lot but right they are: Mario Party Superstars, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Pretty Princess Party.

I’m sure everyone has come across these puzzles at one time. Simple ones have been around for hundreds of years. You generally see them in popular in magazines, newspapers, and books. There used to be a game show called Concentration based on them too. The board game Whatzit is a game based on them.

If you enjoy solving puzzles then this is the perfect game for you. It has a board, dice, and pieces to give players some structure. But I found just going through the cards with friends or family is fun too.

People who like games involving critical thinking and a good vocabulary are going to love this game. It isn’t so much about knowing large words so much as having a vast knowledge of common phrases and compound words.

There isn’t a strategy to Whatzit. Luck isn’t much help here. Quick thinking is the skill which wins the day with this game.

Pictionary or Mad Gab are comparable to Whatzit. They’re all types of puzzle games. Clues are provided and players need to come up with a solution. Pictionary is based on drawing, no words are allowed. While Mad gab is based on words only.

Whatzit uses pictures, words, or letters as clues. No drawing in real time or speaking the words. The clue is an image and you need to solve it. If you like those other games than you should try Whatzit.

Solving Rebus puzzles is a lot of fun. Getting the solution provides a lot of satisfaction. We enjoyed figuring out all the puzzles anyway.

As a game it isn’t that great. Meaning the board, pieces, and dice just get in the way. It’s better to just keep score who solves the most puzzles.

The answers aren’t always clear. Sometimes we found two or three interpretations are possible. Then again, some solutions were quite a stretch. We were wary of how they got to that conclusion based on the clues provided.

For this review, we give Whatzit 5 out of 10 stars. On the whole it just wasn’t the greatest game to play. It was much more enjoyable to just draw cards and come up with the solutions.

In that case it’s an excellent activity for teachers and students. Or to just wile away some time with family or friends. Just to have so many Rebus puzzles at hand, Whatzit is worth checking out.
