3 Best Family-Friendly Fighting Games
Fighting games don’t usually go together with family friendly games. However, there are more than a few family friendly fighting games. For those families looking to add some spice to family game night, here’s a few fighting games to check out.
Kirby Fighters 2
The ol’ puffball himself has a fighting game and it’s a fun one. Kirby Fighters 2 is the sequel to the first Kirby Fighters. It has more fighters, more special moves, and arenas.
Everyone loves Waddle-Dee, Kirby, and his friends in this fighting game. There’s plenty of power ups and obstacles to keep the action going.
Then there’s also Kirby Star Allies which although isn’t a fighting game has a fighting minigame, most of the time there’s so much going on screen, it’s hard to tell what’s happening. Just play as the 3 mage sisters and do their special attacks to see what I mean.
It’s tons of fun to shoot a water cannon, electrical storm, and fire across the screen. You can’t hardly see where the enemies are, but it’s incredibly entertaining nonetheless. Even the characters with the least impressive attacks are fun. A few mini-games are also included in this family friendly fighting game.
The best part of both games is there’s no gore or violence. It’s all cartoonish punches, kicks, and slashes.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
One of the best fighting games in circulation today is Super Smash Bros Ultimate. And it’s family friendly. Who’d have thought such a competitive fighting game would come without any blood or gore?
There are many layers to this game. It may seem like punching and kicking on the surface, but the levels of attacks and counter-attacks is astounding. Getting back on the platform once being knocked off is an artform.
While this game has many advanced strategies, it’s still malleable enough for beginners. Even if you don’t fully comprehend how all the counters, blocking, and special attacks work it’s still a fun fighting game just sticking to basic attacks.
Pokémon Unite
In this team based fighting game, players participate in 5v5 matches. The objective in to score more points than the opposing team. Pokemon respawn in defeated in the arena. But respawning costs time and position.
This game is about attacking or defending at the right time. Each has special abilities such as attacker, defender, speedster, all-around, and support. Winning requires taking maximum advantage of your Pokemon’s role at the right time and place.
It isn’t any harder to learn than Kirby Fighters 2 or Super Smash Bros. Although, Super Smash Bros has deeper layers to the fighting. Pokemon Unite does take some getting used to.
Once you learn your Pokemon’s role, the game gets easier since you make less mistakes. This game is about employing good teamwork and strategy to win. A well timed Unite Move can turn the tide of battle.
Overall, it’s a lot of fun to play as a team. Super Smash Bros has a coop level but Pokemon Unite takes teamwork to the next level. If you like working together in games like Overcooked, then give Pokemon Unite a try. We’ve found it’s a lot of fun fighting as a team.

Family game night can include fighting games, as long as they don’t have any gore or violence. Those are our 3 favorite fighting games for family game night. If your family is looking for something different for family game night, then check out one of the games we recommend.
3 Best Family-Friendly Fighting Games brought to you by: David M.
I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space and Overcooked All You Can Eat.
