We love playing Star Stable Online, and the Western Festival (formally known as Camp Western) is one of the events within the game. It may not be one of our most favorites we do still enjoy the event. In my review for the event you can find out more!

If you’d like a guide on where all the Renegade Chests locations are, I made one which you can view here.

Star Stable Online Western Festival Event Review

Why the Western Festival Event?

The Western Festival event in Star Stable Online offers a refreshing change of pace by focusing on a rustic, countryside theme centered around ranch life, western riding, and outdoor activities. Compared to some of the more magical or seasonal events in the game, Western Festival feels grounded and thematic, celebrating a more realistic side of horseback riding. It’s an event that leans into roleplay, skill-building, and atmosphere—but like many events, it has both strengths and weaknesses depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for.

One of the strongest aspects of the Western Festival event is its setting. The camp itself is designed with a cozy, outdoorsy feel, featuring wooden structures, campfires, and wide-open landscapes that fit perfectly with the western theme. It feels like a place where riders would gather to train, relax, and take part in ranch-style activities. This gives the event a unique identity compared to more colorful or fantasy-driven events.

The gameplay focuses heavily on western riding disciplines, which is a major highlight. Activities such as herding, barrel racing, and other ranch-style challenges bring variety to the experience and offer something different from standard races. These activities often require more control and precision, which can make them feel rewarding when you improve. For players who enjoy practicing their riding skills in a more grounded way, this is a big plus.

Another positive element is the sense of immersion. The event does a good job of making you feel like part of a working ranch environment. Tasks and activities are tied to the theme, and there’s a stronger emphasis on roleplaying compared to some other events. This can be especially enjoyable if you like imagining your character as part of a western-style riding community.

However, the Western Festival event may not appeal to everyone. One of the biggest drawbacks is that it can feel more demanding than relaxing. Many of the activities require focus and repetition to complete efficiently, which can make the event feel a bit like work rather than a casual experience. If you prefer events that are easygoing and low-pressure, this one might feel a bit intense at times.

Another issue is repetition. While the western-themed activities are unique at first, they don’t always have enough variety to stay engaging over a long period. Herding and similar tasks can become repetitive, especially if you’re trying to earn rewards and need to complete them multiple times.

The rewards themselves are generally well-designed and fit the theme nicely. Western-style tack, clothing, and accessories are a big part of the event, and they’re great for players who enjoy that aesthetic. However, if you prefer brighter or more fantasy-inspired designs, the rewards may not feel as exciting.

The social aspect of the event is present but not as strong as in some other events. While players do gather in the area, the focus on individual tasks and skill-based activities means there’s less casual interaction compared to events like Summer Daze or the Winter Village.

How We Test Games

For testing games we use a Nintendo Switch firmware version 2H. Hardware includes Joy-con and Pro controller on a large screen TV. Tests are done with up to 5 players. We take turns playing and evaluating games.

Whenever possible we play multiple players. We also use a Nintendo 2DS, DS XL, and for PC games we use a Ryzen 7 1700x CPU, AMD RX580, running on Win 10. This game is up to 1-player but with online players on PC and Mobile devices.

Pros

  • Unique and immersive western/ranch-themed setting
  • Fun and different gameplay styles (herding, barrel racing, etc.)
  • Strong sense of roleplay and realism
  • Rewards fit the theme well and are visually appealing
  • Good for players who enjoy skill-based challenges

Cons

  • Can feel more like work than relaxation
  • Activities may become repetitive over time
  • Less social and casual compared to other events
  • Not as visually bright or whimsical as other events
  • May not appeal to players who prefer lighter, more relaxing gameplay

Summary

Overall, the Western Festival event in Star Stable Online is a solid and unique addition to the game’s lineup of seasonal content. It stands out for its grounded theme and skill-focused activities, offering something different from the more relaxed or fantasy-driven events. However, it’s not the best fit for everyone. Players who enjoy calm, colorful, and low-pressure experiences may find it a bit too demanding or repetitive.

Overall, it’s an event that shines when you’re in the mood for structured gameplay and a more realistic riding experience. While it may not be the most relaxing event, it offers a distinctive and worthwhile experience for players who appreciate the western theme and want to try something different.
