What’s the difference between the Mario Party games for the Nintendo Switch?

You might want to get a Mario Party game but you don’t know which one. The names are quite similar; Mario Party Superstars VS Super Mario Party and even Super Mario Party Jamboree. For short you could call them Jamboree, Superstars and Super.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

Super Mario Party Jamboree or Jamboree for short, is a lot of fun to play. It released 2024 for the Nintendo Switch. This game has new modes, boards and minigames to play along with some boards and minigames from past mario parties to mix things up.

Super Mario Party Jamboree kinda combines what Super and Superstars has to offer. It’s the sequel to super so it has some similar modes but also has some things in common with Superstars. Like how the minigame system works, party mode and more.

This game features some new modes, some are similar to Super because this game is it’s sequel but it still has new features to offer. This is a list of all the mode below:

  1. Party Mode – Party mode is also in Super and Superstars but it is different boards you can play on, it has some new and some classic.
  2. Minigames – Play minigames from across other modes.
  3. Motion Island – Play three different motion controls themed minigames.
  4. Toad’s Item Factory – Work together to get a ball across the stage using motion controls.
  5. Paratroopa Flight School – Use motion controls and fly around. There are three different types of modes to play. This mode is only up to 2-players, and you have to Mario and Luigi.
  6. Rythm Kitten– Mix up food in time to the music. A lot like Sound Stage from Super but instead of VS you play it co-op.
  7. Koopathlon – Race to the end and try to win. This mode is made for online play but can also be played single player.
  8. Bowser Kaboom Squad – Try to defeat Imposter Bowser by launching cannon balls at it. This mode is made for online play but can also be played single player.
  9. Party-Planner Trek – Try to fulfill tasks to earn mini-stars. This mode is only 1-player.
  10. Party Plazza – A hub world where you can spend in game money to but stuff Like stickers and more. You can also view data records.

Mario Party Superstars

Mario Party Superstars or Superstars for short, is a verry fun Party type game released in 2021. This game has old minigames from past Mario parties all the way from 1 to 10. This game is up to 4-players on one Nintendo switch. This game has 100 minigames to play 105 if including item games.

The way this game stands out from Super Mario Party is this game has more minigames. If you played Mario Party 3 or any other of the Mario Party games from 1 to 10 then this will be a throwback to those. Because this game has the minigames and boards from the past Mario Party games.

Although the minigames are not new to some players, they are new to those who didn’t play the past Mario Party games, like Me. All of these minigames are brand new to some players but not others. This game doesn’t have a hub world to explore but it does has Stickers that can be used like Emojis.

This game has less Modes but more Minigames. Here is a list of the modes to play below:

  1. Party Mode – Party mode is also in Super and Jamboree but it is different boards you can play on from past Mario Party games.
  2. Minigames – Minigames is where you can play minigames from all different modes.
  3. Tro Challenge – This mode is only three players. You play three VS one minigames and try to win and get the best time.
  4. Survival Mode – Play online and compete in minigames against real life players from all over the world.
  5. Coins mode – Play minigames and try to get more coins than other players to win.
  6. Sports and Puzzles – In this mode you play Sports and Puzzles minigames and try to get the best times.

Super Mario Party

Super Mario Party or Super for short, is also a verry fun Party type game released for the Nintendo Switch in 2018. This game has brand new minigames, boards and other modes to play. This game has lots of different modes just for co-op. This game is mostly 4-players for one switch but there is one minigame that can’t be played without a second switch and copy of the game. This game has 84 minigames to play.

This game stands out from Mario Party Superstars because it is waaay different in gameplay because of all the different modes to play. Although the names are super similar the games are not quite as much. This game brings new modes to the classic Mario party series. It has a hub world to explore and find pipes that leads to more minigames to play.

Super Mario Party has lots of different modes to play. Some are focused on co-op while some are VS. Here is a list of the different modes to play below:

  1. Party Mode – Party mode is one of the modes that is in Superstars and Jamboree but it is different boards you can play on.
  2. Partner Party – Partner Party is party mode only with teams, which does change the gameplay a lot.
  3. River Survival – River Survival is all about co-op while you raft rapids togther and play some minigames along the way.
  4. Sound Stage – Sound Stage is about playing VS minigames with motion controls timed to music.
  5. Challenge Road – Challenge Road is only 1-player. It’s like a story mode where you play minigames and try to get to the end of the pathways.
  6. Minigames – Minigames just lets you play all the minigames from all modes.
  7. Mariothon – Play four minigames back-to-back.
  8. Toad’s Rec Room – In Toad’s Rec Room (which you can get to from one of the hub world’s pipes) has some minigames to play. One of which you need to get two Nintendo Switches and copies of this game (Banana, Split).
  9. Stickers – Stickers is only 1-player, you can put stickers you unlock on a board to make a nice picture.

Summary

Overall, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Mario Party Superstars and Super Mario Party are great games to play. They have similar names but the game themselves are different enough that you can get them all.

Mario Party Superstars has more minigames and they are old ones from Mario Party 1 all the way to 10 along with some new modes. While Super Mario Party has brand new minigames and more modes to play. Super Mario Party Jamboree is the sequel to super, so it has some things that are similar to it but still has new features to offer. But they all are great games and have new content.
