The Bible is Funny Review
We added The Bible is Funny to one of our game nights and it was hilarious. I’m not sure what we expected going in but it sure had us all laughing heartily while playing. The title may sound a bit irreverent but it’s not in my opinion.
It uses phrases and words from the Bible to make you laugh. However, it isn’t really saying anything negative or irreverent about the Bible. The premise of the game is one person reads a question or phrase and the other players choose the best answer from one of their cards with Bible quotes on them.
Then the reader chooses the best (the funniest) response to the question. Some answers are off the wall weird, but most are pretty hilarious.
I realize this party game may not appeal to everyone, but in my experience we loved it. We tend to laugh at mispronounced words or misheard phrases anyway so this game dovetailed right into our sense of humor. There are a lot of unexpected responses to the questions.
If this fits with your sense of humor you would like this game. We love Mad Libs and The Bible is Funny is somewhat similar.
Why This Game?
Anyone who likes to get together to play games would enjoy this game. You don’t have to have any biblical knowledge to play. Some sensitive people may avoid this game just because it contains quotes from the Bible. Whether it’s from disdain or reverence, they’re missing out on a lot of fun.
People with a sense of humor will enjoy this game. It had us in stitches. I didn’t feel offended in the least. A good time was had by all playing.
How Does The Bible is Funny Compare to Similar Games
The only similar games that come to mind are Mad Libs, Taboo, Mad Gab, and Spontooneous.
Pros and Cons of The Bible is Funny
The good thing about this game is it doesn’t need dice, pencils, a board, or game pieces. It uses cards to play and keep score. Which means it still needs a table or flat surface to play.
One drawback is it’s subjective. The player who’s turn it is to read chooses the best response based on their opinion. Whether it’s the funniest, weirdest, or logical response is up to them. But it’s assumed the funniest is the best
Another drawback is it could use more cards. Even though the deck looks big, there isn’t as much material as it looks. There were five of us and we went through all the cards after two games.
Summary
For this review, we give The Bible is Funny 9 out of 10 stars. The Bible is Funny is a great game to play with friends or family. If Mad Libs makes you laugh then this game will too. It’s easy to learn, isn’t limited to a specific amount of players, and doesn’t require any special knowledge of the Bible.
A game hasn’t got such a huge laugh from us in a long time. We had a great time playing The Bible is Funny. I highly recommend adding this game to any family game night.
