Train of Thought, Getting to Know Yourself and Others
Playing the Train of Thought card game not only provides hours of entertainment, but also serves as a great way to connect with family and friends. The premise of the game is simple: players take turns drawing cards and answering the question on each card.
The catch? There aren’t any wrong answers. The questions are mostly thought provoking. They range from what if scenarios to what you think about yourself or others.
The game is meant to be thought provoking. Which it mostly is, however, it’s also silly, creative, and occasionally serious. Answering questions about what superpower you want or people in history you’d like to meet have a broad range of answers.
Some are specific to your point of view and even a little personal. You’ll definitely learn more about the people playing Train of Thought with you.
Like any game, this one especially depends on the kind of people you play with. This game has the potential to have a lot of hurt feelings if played with a bunch of jerks. However, it’s a lot of fun played with good natured people.
If you’re looking for a competitive game, then Train of Thought isn’t that. Winning mostly comes down to the luck of the draw. The first person to draw 3 matched sets wins. Since nobody loses a turn or trades cards, everyone has an equal chance of collecting 3 matched sets.
Frankly, this game isn’t about who wins or loses. It’s about how you play. Whether your answers are silly or serious, everyone will have a good time.
If you’re looking for a game to play with grandkids, or learn more about your friends, then this game is good for that. It’s mostly a light and relaxing game. Although at times it’s serious. Fair warning, there are a few questions about your favorite person, or personal secrets that have the potential to make things awkward.
This isn’t an official rule, yet we found having the right to pass on a question and draw another card keeps the game from getting too weird. How can anyone choose their favorite person when they’re all there with you playing? Also, some people might not feel comfortable singing.
Some may prefer following the rules exactly. In my experience, we enjoy most games more by slightly altering the rules or adding a few exceptions. For example, playing Clue without dice speeds up the game considerably. Just freely move to any room like a normal person.
So when we draw a card asking us to imitate another person, we have the option to just pass and draw another. Depending on the people you play with it has the potential to be hilarious or incredibly mean.
The whole point of this game is to understand each other better. So I would avoid playing with mean people. As long as you’re playing with great people, Train of Thought is a great game.
Train of Thought, Getting to Know Yourself and Others brought to you by David M.
I’m David M. I’ve been playing video games a long time, my pong game was fire. Now, my kids run circles around me but we always have a good time. We mostly play party and family games. Strategy and battle games are still among my favorites. I like writing about games almost as much as I do playing them. My favorite games are: Moving Out 2, Out of Space and Overcooked All You Can Eat.
